Struck by the sheer amount of beggers

The cost of getting a bus from Romania to the UK isn't that much. I agree that the beggers don't get the house themselves but the money they make does go back and make their gang-masters very rich: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/8837955/Child-beggars-make-nearly-100000-for-gangs.html

How naive do you and elmarko have to be to not see this going on under your own noses? Have you asked your daughter in law what she thinks about the Roma?

Do you have any solid proof from a verifiable non biased source of this?

What do you expect.....

Everyone is being sanctioned left and right. You're in your nice warm fuzzy comfort zone and have no real idea on how the poorest in this country are being treated when it comes to social security...

Lets put two and two together folks. Draconian benefit reforms = Increase in homelessness and poverty, it ain't freaking rocket science.

Up here in Edinburgh is equally bad, Seem to be east Europeans for the main part. Though we do seem to have a fair few non EE who have dogs to add to the 'ah shame ' factor.

That a-hole by the parking in centre of town peeves me off. Tall white English dude .. .always there, offering his help in working the parking machines.

I'm more annoyed by the ones that park them self's outside the likes of tesco/cash machines/ the phoenix in Jericho and try and guilt trip you. I can understand why they do it but I never alow anyone to guilt trip me. Still most of them are friendly which makes a nice change.

Keep funding those 250k salaries for charity execs!

There are a grand total of 32 charities in the UK whose highest paid executive earns over £100k. The sector average for the chief executive is £60k. Some large charities are taking in well over a £100m a year. These pay packets are very, very small compared to any comparable organisation.

But, hey, why let the facts get in the way of a good rant, hey?

When I was travelling in Italy I was quite shocked by the number of beggers in some cities, Bologna and Florence being the worst and police seem to do very little about it. They also used far more aggressive tactics with tourists than they do over here and you could practically see the guys who were running the show sitting nearby ready to spring to action in case someone told them to go some place. Sorry to offend some sensibilities but most appeared Roma and practically all used the same tactics to get money, either go for disability/pity with some of them literally having their feet stumps on display or just annoy the poop out of you by loudly shaking their coin cups while you're having a dinner on a table outside or buying tickets in train stations.

Rarely seen in Reading and I see maybe 5 or 6 when on the way to work in Central London. Mind you, they don't really hang around the financial district.

It's bad in Belfast. There are gangs working the city centre. Most have 1 copy of the big issue they use as a cover to beg with as begging is against the law. This way with their 1 copy, they can beg and use it as a cover. A friend of mine is a reporter for U.tv and looked into it last year. The gang drops them off in discrete areas and they walk to their begging point. The car used to drop the beggars off was a Merc. Says it all really.

Move to Dublin.

Manchester has gotten really bad for beggars, especially over the last year. They seem to be multiplying by the day. Easily walk past 10 on my way to work.
