Where do you get your information from to influence your election decision?

There is, you self righteous lazy hypocritical pleb. You vote for the MP that best represents your views, even if that means an independent or fringe party representative, or spoil your paper, or you get off your lazy behind and stand yourself.

"I'm not going to vote" is nothing more than you contributing to the problem and voids any and all opinion you have on politics. Can't be bothered to vote? You don't get a voice, because you've just complacently and passively supported whomever it is that will win.

come down off that horse son! LOLZ

To be honest, I make a lot of my opinions from the debate in the General Election threads. Lots of good information in those. I've also watched all of the TV debates, QT etc. and I keep up with the news via The Guardian.

The bit I find difficult is balancing national issues and local candidates. Nationally I'm pretty set on Labour this time out. I like Ed Miliband, and his views seem to largely align with my own. If I were to write my own manifesto, Labour's would be the closest match. However, our incumbent Conservative MP has done a good job, and he seems to have a lot planned for the next five years. By contrast, the local Labour MP is being opportunist, taking cheap shots and doesn't seem to be pledging to do much beyond 'saving' the hospital. This makes who to vote for a difficult choice for me. Labour have a shot at winning this seat, but I don't think the current MP deserves to lose it (and the Labour candidate doesn't seem to deserve a vicrory).

Basically this, I see no reason to support any of them and have never voted. I work hard and support myself wihout dependence upon the state but I'm not wealthy, my 'family' doesn't include children and both my livelihood and hobbies are products of the automotive industry. No party even pretends to cater towards my interests and as a result the whole election will pass me by.

UKIP propose the following:

- Bring forward the age a car must be to be exempt from vehicle tax to a rolling 25 years (surely this fact alone makes it the duty of every car enthusiast to vote UKIP!)
- Repel any future 'road pricing'/pay as you go legislation
- Introduce a proper debate about the 80mph limit & inappropriate speed limit enforcement
- Generally seem to accept the fact that a productive population which is able to get about cheaply & efficiently utilising a solid road infrastructure is a good thing.

If you want to help yourself, vote Conservative. If you want to help everyone else, vote Labour or some such else lackadaisical. [Internet Forum]

I get my information by reading stuff. I read books, I read articles on sites with a good reputation (ie. BBC/Reuters for news) and I tend to start with the science/tech ones. Regarding the latter, I usually follow links or do a search if there's a study mentioned. I also read Fox News and Daily Mail political articles on a semi regular basis, particularly opinion pieces, to stay up to date with what the nutters are thinking.

I listen to what the party leaders say and, more importantly, what they don't say. Unlike most people, I think the politicians we have today are decent, mostly competent people who tend to stay away from corruption and act for what they perceive is the best interest of the country - even If I don't agree with some of their positions. I like Cameron, Miliband, Clegg or Sturgeon and I think they are all capable leaders. There are exceptions, such as Farage, a typical opportunistic extremist that should be nowhere near a position of power.

I don't want to be governed, so I'm not about to vote for it.

So what's your solution ? Don't all countries have some form of governance ? Aside from living on a desert island I honestly don't see what choice you have. Therefor, why not exercise your democratic right and help make a change in what you see as a flawed system ?

Even if you were living on a desert island you'd still need to govern your own needs.

[thinks] Do I eat all the mango's and have to live on fish until the next harvest ?[/thinks]

I think he would prefer being in charge of his own governance given his anarchic comments. That was my point.

You're going to be governed whether you like it or not, you might as well have a say on how you want to be governed

Or you could move to Somalia and enjoy no government, no law and order, no food etc at least until someone murders you anyway!

Even anarcho capitalist thinkers like Robert Nozick took the view that a certain level of government is inevitable.

Do the parties actually keep their election promises, anyway? Align yourselves as much as you want, but if the other guys don't keep their end of the bargain then it doesn't really seem effective. I'm really struggling with trusting anybody enough to vote. Even my independent guy is an idiot.

id love it if election promises where held to advertising standards.
