Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Yip.

I just mount a right angle connector on the vtx, feel it through the hole for a pig tail on the frame and screw the antenna on so it is sandwiched in the frame, sturdy.

thought I would try my hand at making a IBcrazy skew planer. probably made a few mistakes as it Is my first attempt and need a sma connector to test it out but it looks the part.

May try that, although some people are saying they get very hot, and some say that you cant use 4S batteries on as it will fry it.

Which I would need as my 450 uses a 4S battery

Thats the only thing stopping me hitting buy

well my one gets warm but I have airflow so it isn't a issue and I have used mine on 4s since the day I got it.

Fair enough, will probably get that, and may buy a 500mw one later down the line.

Here is the crash video, if anyone is interested

Probably going to just go for another diatone frame

Decided to get in on this hobby, can see it might get expensive! :p

Building my first, here it is at the moment:

Despite reading many blogs and watching many YouTube vids, I still made some rookie errors, like buying ESCs that don't have BEC to power the KK2 board, Fail. :o

Still, its an interesting project. I live in rural Scotland so finding open areas to fly shouldn't be too hard I hope.

That looks good. All self contained and powered from the balance connector.

How do I hook it up to a 4S battery is what im wondering, as the connector it comes with is for 3S batteries, someone on multi-rotor forums has kindly offered to have a look at the fatshark vtx. I have sent him some pics and hes said get it posted, if he can sort it for me for matirial and some beer money that would be ideal to leave me with a spare VTX, he has repaired a few in the past. or I can stick it in the 450 which is never in any crashes.

My Diatone frame has been ordered and that VTX from banggood

Will let you know what I think once its all built

Looking good above

should have put what I used:

SK450 frame
KK2 board
Sunnysky 980KV motors
10x4.5 props - balanced!
XRotor 20A ESC (no BEC, whoops!)
Turnigy 2250mah 3S
FlySky FS-i6 Tx with voltage telemetry

Got a Mobius cam as well, not exactly sure where I'm going to mount that, but that's part of the challenge, right? :D

Can you either move some of the stuff around on top and put the mobius somewhere? or mount it in the middle plates, or bottom?

So as my 2nd diatone is on order, wondering how I am going to create the space between the bottom and middle plate, so I can mount the escs inside the frame this time instead of on the arms.

The way the arms get attached at the moment is by a small hex screw and nut, so I am wondering if there is a small round metal tube to use as the spacer, then a hex or other screw through the plates, trough the arm/spacer and a nut on the other end.

This should be ok, although I dont want to run in to any issues with harder landings, no idea if that would be worse for the frame having spacers in between.

See below to give you an idea of wher the spacers will go, there would be two on each arm, as there is currently 2 positions on each arm where they screw in to the body.

Or M3 alu standoffs

Yep I think I can move stuff down a bit, I've just ordered some different standoffs and nylon nuts etc.

Other option would be to replace the power board pcb with the chassis integrated ones and then move the KK.

That's one horrific looking place, so glad I dont live there :p but if I did, I would have to buy myself a small boat

Nice shots

Spent a few hours on that 250 flight sim, really impressed for $5.

I just set it up as shown on their PDF plus turned off RF mode a switched on slave flies really well, although I think I will have to make my 250 rudder more lively after using this.

What radio? and what weight/expo settings?

From their PDF I followed it all, and it was pretty much uncontrollable with a brand new model and the rates they mentioned. Had to adjust and input my own weight/expo settings its controllable now but something still doesnt feel 100%, still drifts off now and again even after trimming, and a little sensitve

How are you connecting it up to the PC? I had it plugged in to mic jack, and smartproplus running so it allows it to be used through the headphone jack, but also have a selectable usb dongle for sim's.

All on a taranis

Im hoping all the chatter is true about it being the start, there is a lot of potential, and hopefully it will become something great

Was pondering on the idea

But I don't know how they would handle the harder landings with it being a spacer rather than a flat spacer sandwitched in between I could be risking it if it comes down a little harder

Smaller surface area means it will have more chance of cracking a leg than a wider surface area
What do people think?
