Annoying cracking sound when moving my handlebars to the 90 degrees to the left/right and sometimes just randomly. I've tried re-tensioning and re-greasing everything but no difference. Going to check out the cable ends shortly and then a proper disassemble and clean... and then give up and buy a new bike I suspect. Gah :/

Corrected for you. ;)

Knocking/creaking (cracking would have me worried) sounds seem to be so frustrating, especially from a carbon frame. I had one from steering and was my internally routed cables moving around.

Nice to see you all had a lazy day. :p I did the Fred Whitton again, took 13 mins off last year's time, just disappointed it wasn't more, the headwind on the back leg was a killer over the moors. Would have easily gone under 7:30 otherwise, but still really enjoyed the day. Felt really good for a big chunk of the ride which is a massive improvement on last year, but I don't think I could have pushed harder than I did. Rode all the hills too.

Chapeau.

No riding for me this weekend, just a large alcohol fulled stag do. Finally got to bed at 4.30am this morning after spending two hours keeping an eye on the groom who had been making a lot of calls on the big white telephone...

Anyone got any tips for stopping cramp? I find on rides over the 30 mile mark my right medialis really flares up.

I'm always suitably hydrated pre, intra and post ride but it appears to be the same bit each time that gets me!

Sounds like a mechanical issue. Have you had a bike fit? Might be worthwhile.

FWIW I don't think the majority of cramps are hydration related, I think fatigue is the most common cause. If you're relatively new to cycling, it might be a training issue as well as (or instead of) a mechanical one.

BikeFit is something I need to do I think, just afraid of being told my bike is completely wrong :p

LBS does a Trek Bike Fit for £80, might give that a go.

Fatigue also a possible reason, not been riding too long.

Definitely will be helped by a bike fit. You've already got lots of the core strength that helps with such things so it's almost certainly posture and position related.

Gah, having dismantled my cranks this afternoon my indexing now seems to be slightly off kilter. Neither the front or back is quite right. I'll have to have a play with it tomorrow. I also still can't trace an odd noise from the front end of the bike, though I've a feeling it may just be the gear cables rattling against the headtube. I guess I'll have to upgrade to 105 and hidden cables at some point!

I got out for 25 miles this evening. Absolutely horribly windy out there. I took in a ludicrous cat 4 climb which is half a mile at an average of 11%, starting out at close to 20%. I wasn't really feeling it so I was in my bailout gear from the beginning and my cadence was down at about 50 at times. I thought my time was going to be dreadful, but I was only 10s down on my PR from last year. I'll have to try it again sometime. You can continue climbing from there and go up another 600 feet to the Winter Hill TV mast, if you're mental, and that becomes a cat 2 climb, but I've not tried that route, only a longer but overall gentler way up to the mast.

Answer me this... Cartridge V-brakes - do these all use a little clip thing rather than the teeny tiny screw you have on cartridge caliper brakes?

After much umming and arring i have finally ordered a bike.

Went for the Rose Xeon RS 4400
Sram Force 22 with the brakes upgraded to Red
Anodised black, Non monolink stem with the saddle and the handlebar tape white.
Oh and 25mm tyres.
1550 delivered
Excited. Now the wait begins

how long is the projected wait time?

I assume i will hear tomorrow. I heard its up to 8 weeks at the moment. So im fearing the worst. Theres a charity ride i want to do in 6 weeks though so fingers crossed...

Weather forecast has changed from a bit of cloud and lots of sun Mon/Tue to rain and more rain. Lame :/ Might not book Tue afternoon off work to do a long ride after all.

First ride today after fitting new SPD clips over the weekend (old ones were really worn out).

Didnt realise how much extra force was needed to unclip....que me falling off sideways when i came to a red light
