With stuff like this and the various tumbler people who self identify as just about anything imaginable I do wonder if we need to just start moving towards unisex dressing rooms and toilets.
If we're separating changing rooms in stores by gender, presumably so people feel a bit more comfortable, then a male with long hair and some make up who claims to self identify as female isn't necessarily going to make other users of the female changing rooms comfortable... he/she might be genuine or might be a perv but he/she is physically male regardless. It could potentially lead to an even more awkward situation if one of these physically male/mentally female people demanded to use the female changing area at a swimming pool - I'm sure the mum's with their kids wouldn't be too happy at the sight of a naked long haired man in the showers....the fact that 'she' thinks of herself as female doesn't make much difference to everyone else using the facility.
Taking it a step further - not all women have long hair or wear makeup and some will dress in male clothing... could someone self identify as female and not even bother with the long hair and makeup... perhaps someone physically male, dressing as a male, with a male haircut but self identifying as a female lesbian. Surely as a trans person they're entitled to use female changing rooms?
