I was feeling a bit out of it and was kind of on auto pilot so when I stopped to meet my friend as he left work I automatically hit finish/save. Pretty dumb :/

Higher speeds you say? I've just been out and done 33 flat miles and averaged 16.7mph. Nothing compared to some of you guys, but very good for me. I made a point of just leaving my Garmin on the route screen, so I could just follow the line, rather than worrying about speed or cadence or anything like that. Turns out it worked quite well!

Nice work. I had a bit of a similar experience recently when I temporarily didn't have a cadence monitor on my new bike. Not constantly looking at my cadence meant that I pushed a little harder and hit faster speeds than normal.

the funny thing is that the guy under me just got it two days ago !! haha bet he's looking at the "uhoh somone took your KOM" message now.

Haha fantastic and nicely done! There's a couple round here I'm aiming for but I think it may be off for a few weeks after tonight, check my latest thread haha.

Might have a crack at that next time I'm out that way :D

Give it a go! Its a beaut route!

A lethargic week after an active week last week. Cycled to work this morning and got passed again by this flattop van of a landscaping firm. He passes me in exactly the same point, every day, and the passenger always leans out the window and shouts "Put some ******* lights on!", be it broad daylight or the murky gloom of the morning (in which case, I do actually have lights on!).

What makes me laugh is they can see you well enough to plan opening a window to shout that.. What else do that want? They'll only complain when the moon lights blind them!

xD

Tell him to eff off, thats what I do..

Looking at ANT+ USB dongles for TrainerRoad to use with either my old Windows Laptop (which I might just leave in the garage) or my MBP.

I see Garmin do a very small one for around £30-35 but I've also found larger ones listed as compatible with their watches on ebay for less than £10.

I know it would probably be tempting fate to buy the cheaper larger one but other than if they differ USB1/USB2 they should both still work? Just a HRM & SC sensor with my 500 at the moment.

I've used a suunto one which is now with Roady. Absolutely fine. No difference between that and the garmin tbh.

You should probably be fine to be honest. I have the Suunto Movestick Mini and it works well but that's obviously more in the expensive price range. Looking at the TR site it's a lot more forgiving about Ant+ than it is about BTLE:

USB1 and USB2
There are two kinds of ANT+ USB dongles to choose from: USB 1.0 and USB 2.0. USB 1.0 can connect up to 4 devices at a time, while USB 2.0 can handle up to 8. Most newer dongles will be 2.0 since 1.0 is no longer in production.

USB 1.0 dongles will work with TrainerRoad with a few exceptions. You will need a USB 2.0 dongle for the Wahoo KICKR. As far as we know, any USB stick that uses ANT+ communication protocol will work with TrainerRoad. If you are unsure which you have, check the info on the back of the stick.

Do you already have an Ant+ speed/cad sensor on your bike btw? If not, the cheap Decathlon one (£16 iirc) is decent enough for turbo use.

Thanks, yep bought the 500 bundle so have them already :)

Will acquire an ANT+ dongle today and hope it arrives in time for my next TT session :D

Slow SS riders hey ;)

You've not had much luck with punctures recently! Same wheels? Fairly sure there's no dink/rough edge on the rim which might be damaging them or have you found a hole on the rolling surface?

Different wheels and tyres each time. Having been cycling properly for about 3 years now I could count the number of punctures I'd had on the round almost on one hand. Until this year. Not sure if thats just because I'm doing way more miles though.

Will do some investigation on gatorskin tubs, if not will just get conti competitions again. If they puncture then I'm ditching the tubs for good.

Well.. Tried as hard as I could on a ten miler to increase my average from 13-13.5 and ended up with nearer 16!

Great ride mate!

Ave of 15 mph - The fat man is getting faster :D

Well done & keep it up!

I rely on my cadence meter far too much, especially on the hills.

It can be very useful on the longer more steady hills.

I think this is it, depending how you ride and how you pace yourself there are a number of ways of doing it. Some methods will work for one person and not another!

I now use HR (<170bpm) and cadence (70-85) on long hills, usually standing. Now I'm stronger I find I can control my effort and pacing easier than when sitting...

Previously with my lack of hill experience I just paced myself sitting spinning in my lowest gears @ 90 cadence. Even then I would struggle & blow up. Now I'm getting better anything below 8% (or short sharp <12%) I stand and push it at 70-80 cadence in as high a gear as I feel I can maintain.

Sitting I tend to spin at 85-95rpm and my HR can rapidly spike 180+ before I realise. Towards the end of a long/hard ride I'm tired so I will sit and spin up hills, I'm usually so tired at this stage that I don't rapidly spike my HR and blow up! ;)
