The HTC One Hima (M9) Thread

So I had the official HTC Transparent case on for a week...nice fit...but I've decided I'm going to take the phone out and let it breath a little :p

Naked from now on and we'll see how long it lasts :D

End of the day it will only cost me £30 to go through insurance should anything unfortunate happen to it! However if I'm planning a day of intensive photo taking e.g abroad/nights out etc then I may well put it back in the case.

So how is battery life on the M9?
I had a M7, which I really liked, but the battery rarely made a day for me - and I didn't think myself a heavy user :( Went to a Note 3, which naturally had far better battery life....before a brief interlude with a Lumia 930 whilst waiting for the Note Edge. Thing is, the Note Edge battery life is not doing great now either, and starting to annoy me, so the 'change' bug has bitten!
Really love the HTC design and quite fancy a change.......especially whilst the Note Edge will still return over £350 trade-in!

So......for anyone not bored from reading the above, how is the battery life? Can I realistically expect notably better than the M7? Appreciate thoughts :)

To be honest I find the battery life absolutely fine. Lasts a day no problem at all if I stick to my general use and I always have Bluetooth on...connected to Moto 360....Wifi on....4G on....so essentially I turn nothing off on the phone at all.

My day consists of at least 1hr 30 listening to music/podcasts through the commute, general browsing online through journeys and throughout my day and all the usual texts and calls.

There's a rough impression of my life with the phone and how it lasts.

Thanks for the response :)
I also have Bluetooth on all day, again with a Moto 360, and do not want to be turning off stuff! I keep wifi on, 4G etc too......so sounds promising.
Think I need to visit Westfield and have a play with one, next, as this is certainly looking like a strong possibility as my handset for the next 6 months of so :)

I've not had great battery life on my M9. I'm on Three and signal is fairly poor both at work and at home, which may contribute. But usually I get around 3.5h of SOT over 12h which is not fantastic really. The phone gets quite warm quickly too.

Overall it feels like a step backward from the M8 in longevity, but I'm hoping software updates will help.

Interesting, I also have use a 3 SIM, and signal is poor at home. During the day, however, I have a very good signal.
TBH, I am quite surprised that the Note Edge does not provide better life, as I am not a heavy user. No 3d gaming etc., but there is so much Samsung 'stuff' keeping the phone busy (wakelock) all the time, it seems.

Things to remember is when at home you have Wifi etc connected no doubt so that negates the poor signal somewhat. I'm on Vodafone with a poor signal at home and a great signal at work...so it never really drops from full bar/4g.

Right, bought one from Westfield CPW last night, spent a little time transferring 'stuff' across - Tap & Go seemed like it would be good, but ultimately did not copy over all that many apps
Anyway, so far so good, although I have yet to transfer the SIM from my Note Edge over. Currently have the Edge acting as a hotspot in the office, whilst I set apps up (save logons and the like). Oh, and ordered a Dot View case (clear back variant) which should arrive in the next couple of days :)

Good to hear kevpuk...what's your first impressions? I'll be interested to see how useful you feel the Dot View is this time around as it was definitely V1 style on the M8. Seems a lot more useful now.

First impressions were that I love the feel and build of the phone - perhaps pronounced from having a Note 3 and Note Edge (as well as the Lumia 930, although that was nice) since my last HTC (M7).
Screen is lovely, really no discernible 'impact' by 'only' being 1080p in comparison to the Note Edge's screen. I have always liked the Super LCD screens, generally preferring the colours to AMOLED, although seems I am in the minority :p Sound, albeit just fiddling, is once again excellent and I have always liked the Sense UI, with this latest version looking really nice.
Can't really say much more yet, as I really have only been transferring content over and getting apps set up - can't remember my Tado password, which is annoying, will need to wait until I get home to check them!
Will report back with more later, once I have something useful to add, and will hopefully have the Dot View to comment on too :)

Still trying to work out what to do.

My HTC One M7 remains a fantastic phone - it's fast, the screen is excellent, it does everything I want to and I'm very happy with it... with one enormous exception. The battery life is getting worse and worse, lately I've been out of power by 2pm. Worse still the phone gets VERY warm when doing simple web browsing.

I don't want to buy a new phone - I paid 500 quid for this one and to think it lasted 2 years before needing to go in the bin because of its battery is fairly depressing - but I guess I need to consider doing something.

The obvious choice is an M9 but I feel like I'm falling into the M7 trap again.

:(

How about a new M8 for £300?

I'd be more inclined to buy a m8, probably better battery life than the m9, is yours over 2 years old now?

This is something I've considered - 300 quid seems not bad. It's not that I don't have £600 to spend on a new phone it's just that I've been burnt by the experience of doing so last time only for it to require replacement 2 years later. I just don't consider 500-600 quid for something that only lasts 2 years to represent good value. It's so frustrating as there is absolutely nothing else wrong with my M7 and it lacks not a single feature I'd want that is present in newer devices.

My M7 is just over 2 years old now. I suspect the fact it gets very hot when doing simple web browsing is related to the battery drain...

Where can one find a new M8 for £300? How does the battery compare?

I was the same, and recently bought an iPhone 6 128gb, whilst it was a lovely bit of kit and had a great camera etc etc, it just seemed crazy to spend that much on something to make calls etc etc (I bought my m7 at launch or thereabouts for £500 and got £250 back for it after a year) I've now bought a Lumia 640 and I have to say im more than happy with it, easily get 2 days out of it and the best bit which you will love is it reads out texts over my e90 pro headunit ;)

I remember we bought our M7s around the same time, and I have very much the same problems as you do regarding battery life. My battery would often die at 2/3 pm - 4 pm if I'm lucky.

I backed everything up and completely wiped the phone and the battery life improved very noticeably. It now lasts until 9 / 10 pm (it gets to 15% at this time - this is acceptable for me).

I'm in talks with HTC at the moment. I want them to replace the camera module (purple tint) and battery. Let's see if they deliver.

However I agree with you - I'm not spending more than half a grand to replace my phone to the latest model which isn't leaps and bounds ahead of what I currently have, and is likely to show the same symptoms two years from buying it. When push comes to shove and I really need to replace my M7, I will consider leaving the HTC line of phones for Apple or Sony.

I actually sent my phone back in February when the wifi died. At the time I reported poor battery use. They returned it very quickly with perfectly functioning wifi but hadn't touched the battery.

It's now out of warranty.
