Argos returs dispute with Chromecast

How does Argos still exist?

Probably the same reason PC World still exists.

This is the reason I blind refused to ever work in retail when I was younger, the level of entitlement would drive me up the wall. The try before you buy crowd with their, "I iz got rights" spiel that absolves them of all responsibility as a human being along with supernatural powers instilled in them when they magically become the customer that is always right would be too much to fathom. It's a cheap dongle with clear as daylight functionality, not to mention it seems to mention everywhere it's not included in the money back guarantee.

Consumers have rights shocker.

Why should someone buy someone they aren't allowed to try first? there's a reason display models are so popular

You want me to buy something on faith alone? good luck with that the man in the sky failed to sell me his religion

The 30 day money back guarantee isn't a consumer right though, it is an additional service Argos offer in addition to rights.

To answer your question, to stop shops being used as short-term free loan merchants. The often touted joke of buying an wedding outfit for the weekend then taking it back on Monday for example.

There's no shocker, if the item is broken or not as described then that's what consumer rights are for, quick and simple exchanges or refunds. Display models you can play with in the store are one thing, using businesses as short term swap shops because you like to buy things willy nilly is another.

We live in an age of consumer empowerment with the power of social media, online reviews from professional and peer sources and plenty of information available about items we buy. In this particular case we are talking about a widely publicised item that can be seen working just a click away on the internet that is clearly marked as not qualifying for a policy that is an addition to consumer rights.

I did not open the box exept to get the product out of the box and then stuck it back down once I realised I was returning it.

Just what?

Sometimes the level of stupidity on this forum scares me, it's like people need to have their hand held for everything.

Come on man - they're loads of reasons to open the box outside of simply getting the product out of the box. Like wanting to smell the "New".

Everyone likes to smell the New.

come on man he carefully opened the box without damaging the seal for all sense and purpose it is still as good as the second he received it and in saleable condition.

It would not hurt argos to take the item back.

These people are out there. Now. Operating cars, trucks, heavy machinery, looking after your kids, teaching your kids, making your food.

They're everywhere.

They still wouldn't be able to resell the item though unless they was to sell the item as second hand, meaning a bigger loss? I'm only going by what I've read of these forums recently.....

The reason for this is the NowTV pass I would guess. Anyone can buy a Chromecast, claim the 3 months NowTV and return it.

That makes sense.

In principle OP should probably apologise to the store manager he gave such a hard time to. Was totally in the wrong

I would hate to work in Argos: on the one hand you have customers like the OP trying to pull a fast one, on the other you have management policy instructing you to make life difficult for people who legitimately want to return stuff.
