The labour Leader thread...

That's blown over now (as i predicted), All the detractors have either been removed or left. Douglas Carswell has backtracked his earlier statements in yesterdays Sunday Politics and and all but Patrick O'Flynn have come out to back Farage now

Patrick O'Flynn is either going to back-track like the rest (And to a extent already has) or just leave the party. It's business as usual at UKIP now

So the dictatorship continues. Having exterminated his opponents, Nigel 'Stalin' Farage retains an iron grip on the party.

They would literally do better with Neil Kinnock back at the helm. At least you knew what he stood for.

Labour are going through what appears to be a massive identity crisis. If they revert back to being a full on left wing party like they were in the 70's / 80's then I can see them losing more ground. A move to close to the centre/right makes them indistinguishable from the Tories or worse makes them look like a rehash of Blair and his cronies. So now they are left kind of in no mansland.

It will be some time before they fully recover and can become a credible opposition party. It might be a ridiculous idea, but UKIP likely have more chance of becoming credible before Labour do if the current climate and voter views continue. Although Farage is doing a good job of buggering that up with his clinging on to power............
Nah, there are too many people out there who will just vote for them because they don't like the Tories.

Liz Kendall, jesus. I guess another Tory majority in 2020 then.

It was a very slim chance anyway. But now it's sealed/in the bag for the Tories until 2025 unless they do something monumentally stupid, but that's unlikely anymore unlike it was in the 90s

i agree, the tories would really have to screw up for any of the proposed idiots to stand a chance. what's amazing is that labour don't even seem to realise how bad the people they elect are.

What's wrong with Liz Kendall? I've not seen anything from her publicly, she does look rather awkward in staged photos though. Being a rather new MP would work to her advantage though.

She's a fresher and she strikes me as a bit wobbly on the NHS.

Blairite, home counties gal, parachuted into safe northern Labour constituency. Ugh no more of that please. In any case, she won't win - Tristram only endorsed her because if he didn't they'd both fail to get enough nominations so he fell on his sword.

From Wikipedia

Early life and career

Kendall grew up in the village of Abbots Langley in Hertfordshire and attended Watford Grammar School for Girls. She then studied at Queens' College, Cambridge, graduating with a first in history in 1993.

She has worked as Director of the Ambulance Services Network, and the Maternity Alliance charity, as a researcher for the King's Fund, as an associate director for health, social care and children’s early years at the Institute for Public Policy Research think tank and was a special adviser to two cabinet ministers,[2] Patricia Hewitt and Harriet Harman.[3]

She campaigned in an unsuccessful attempt to become the Labour candidate in Chesterfield for the 2001 general election.

43 years old and has zero real world life experience out side of politics. So she is what? Ed Miliband in skirt?

She won't win anyway, I get the feeling the days of the career politician are coming to end and are somewhat 'unfashionable'. Andy Burnham is the next leader the only thing that's going to stop him from becoming so is a major scandal and he is forced to quit the party.

Neil Kinnock - A third Time Looser, purporting to be working class, pocketing millions as a European Commissioner, ensuring his wife got a nice comfy job too. He was made to look a complete amateur on prime minister's question time, (Saint) Margaret Thatcher always put him to the sword.

At least you knew what he stood for.

Yes, little ginger haired men from Wales :D

liz kendall..yvette cooper, andy burnham can't see any of these candidates winning the next GE tbh. perhaps dan jarvis will feel he can do the job in 2020. so let one of these no hopers take over for now :p and win big in 2025.

A lot of people might not want to hear it....but what Labour need is a new Tony Blair. A leader, with a bit of political and media savvy, and, dare I say it, gravitas. I don't see anyone putting their hand up....
