What is it for?

It's a digital to analogue converter which is used to convert a digital signal from the computer to analogue for the output I.e speakers. So a better DAC will mean better sound quality, this is basically an external sound card. The more you spend you should expect a better DAC. Also has a headphone amp which is used to amplify the audio signal. This won't just make the sound louder but make it clearer etc. Not necessary for most earphones but quite a few "audiophile" headphones need the power to drive them :)

Probably a terrible explanation but hopefully you get the idea :p

Also, Crinkleshoes, what is that shark on your bars? I want one.

Not my bars unfortunately... spotted it out the window while we were eating dinner... had to take a pic when we got outside :)

I was antsy for my wife to finish her desert quickly in case the person came back and rode off before I got a pic... lol

Any good? Been looking at one of these for a while

It's handy as you don't need to secure the far end. eg measuring across a wall
It's was very useful when I took it to work to mark out positions of some new machinery we were installing.

Indeed not black, looks like 'Ireland Says Yes Blue' to me.

Haha, pretty sure they're grey and Ireland will never say yes.

Yeah, sort of. It's Firetraps logo afaik, but based on that.
