Got Caught Speeding Last Night

I'd get a solicitor on this case. A dual carriageway with no speed camera signs or 30mph repeaters. If you were Alex Ferguson you'd walk away laughing.

Rubbish, sorry to hear this. I don't know the road but must admit 30mph on any dual carriageway road at 11pm is going to feel unnecessarily slow. It feels stupidly slow on single carriage roads when you're the only car around!

Just got to hope the officer forgets to put in the traffic file! If it goes to court I'm guessing either a short ban or 6 points and a £600 fine.

Look at the street view of the road, it's not a dual carriageway as you might imagine - it's an inner city link between 2 roundabouts with a pedestrian crossing in the middle, pavements on each side etc

There's no requirement for 30mph repeater signs, if there's lampposts and no repeaters then it's 30. If you're not aware of how to read the road then ignorance isn't a defence

I drive through a 30 zone on the way to work and stick to the speed limit, the amount of people that come up behind me and tailgate is shocking. Most of the time it's mum's on the school run!

Tell me about it, it's worrying how it seems to have become expected to speed and that sticking to the speed limit is frowned upon by some people!

There's a road on my way to/from work which is residential at each end, but for a ~1/3 mile stretch in the middle it opens up with a field on one side and a warehouse on the other. It's a 30 limit all the way, but the number of people who seem to think "no houses = motorway", resulting in idiots driving 13.52 mm off my bumper is ridiculous - they usually find themselves doing 20mph at that point, as I get so distracted I struggle to find the accelerator pedal ;)

I suspect 4-6 points and anywhere between 75% to 125% of a weeks wage as a fine. A ban would be unlikely I suspect unless you have other history.

No other history other than a speed awareness course in 2005. I'm going to attend court and plead guilty and not make any excuses for myself. Just be honest, apologise and see what happens.

I know that road, driven it a few times when I go to Reading. It is one of those roads which really does seem like it should have a higher speed limit (perhaps 40), but then again at rush hour, the 30MPH limit makes perfect sense.

Good luck OP. Tell us how it goes...

You did 60 in a 30 zone which is quite clearly a built up area with a couple of traffic lights strewn across, that is stupidity. Everyone likes to have a bit of "fun" every now and again, but you pick your place and moment carefully.

Ouch. I was stopped at 58 in a 30 and the police officer offered me 3 points FPN or contest in court. I took the FPN.

How could anyone even begin to try and explain how they thought nearly 60mph (which is what he would have been doing indicated on his speedo) was acceptable down that road?

I had to go to court (so boring) for doing 51 in a 30.

Entering East Harling, I got pulled over roughly where that Punto is in the picture. Police Officer was hiding behind the bush on the right hand side where the turning is. I was obviously slowing down coming from the NSL road... but yeah, I should have slowed more.
A number of children died that day.

Was within my first 2 years of passing my test. Think it was in a Ford Orion 1.6i... Ghia, no less.

Ended up with 5 points and about £250 fine plus £80 court costs I think.

This was about 10+ years ago. :)

I guess 54 in a 30 will see 6 points, a bigger fine and perhaps a small ban.
