Got Caught Speeding Last Night

Can anyone advise me on devising a statement to read out on court? I have been trying to register at pepipoo for ages; I've got a username and password but it won't let me make any new posts. Court case is Wednesday and I'm just planning on pleading guilty and apologising for speeding and then detailing how I'm not some sort of serial speeder and this is my first offence etc.

Since this has happened I have been so careful with my driving, but it's amazing to see how many people will tailgate me in 30mph zones, even overtaking me just for sticking to the speed limit. I've also been very careful going through 20mph zones, which also seem to irk people immensely.

In that instance I tend to drop down 20-25mph, Do it all the time, then see the sheer frustration on their faces, its brilliant.

Just ignore them. They are the worst people on the road and they are often people who fly through a 30mph zone at 40 or 45 and then stick at 45 when you get to a NSL limit....

You generally gain very little by speeding through a 30mph village but stand to lose a lot more (getting caught speeding, hitting a pedestrian or a car pulling out of their drive) . 30mph limits are there for a reason as you will generally be going past countless drives, over pedestrian crossings, going past schools, going through a road with shops and therefore lots of pedestrians. Most of the time i catch straight up with the person ahead of me who just flew through a 30 zone at stupid speed.

Yep I get it all the time when I'm sat bang on the speed limits in 20 and 30 zones. I'll always let people go faster if they want to, that's their problem, but it really bothers when someone gets annoyed at somebody for doing the speed limit.

Personally I tend to just hold my windscreen washers on continuously when someone is tailgating me (if visibility permits of course). 9 times out of 10 they'll back off. Sometimes they'll get right up behind again after I stop so they just get more of it. Much better than getting wound up by it or brake testing like some morons do.

Same here. People even do it in a 30mph average speed camera zone! I drive through daily. I don't know what they hope to achieve by it?

Because people are stupid. There is a heavily policed 50mph dual carriageway for a couple of miles on my way to work (loads of speed camera signs and often there is a van or policeman with a speed gun on it), yet people always speed down it at 60mph+. But they get nowhere because at the end of it are two busy roundabouts and then a set of traffic lights so 9 times out of 10, i just end up catching up to or going past everyone who was speeding anyway. It makes me laugh.

I don't know why you would risk it.

It was a few years ago when I was in court but I can fully sympathise with how it hangs over you. Try to focus on when its all going to be over then you'll know one way or another.

I said basically that, looked sad and more nervous than I actually was, although I was bricking it tbh. Might be worth throwing in there that its been playing on your mind since it happened and its not something you want to have to go through again. I got off lightly, and havnt been knicked since. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

How strange  Are you one of these people that don't know how to adjust your windscreen washers to, you know, wash your screen?

Oh it does wash my screen, hence why I said if visibility permits, but while driving along it still sprays all over the car that's sitting inches off my bumper. It almost always makes said tailgater back off and doesn't involve doing anything stupid like slamming my brakes on so it's a win as far as I'm concerned.

Poor people don't know about automatic wipers :D:D

It seems that usually even those with auto wipers get the message, so it's all good :)

then detailing how I'm not some sort of serial speeder and this is my first offence etc.
Don't do this, they already know you have a clean licence. Just apologise for the case at hand.

Mention this, mention how fuel economy has increased, mention how much more aware you are of the things around you which has made you notice how other drivers act.

Ended up with a 7 day ban and £857 fine including court costs. I'm more bothered about the fine than the ban. Especially when the **** in front of me at court was caught doing 120mph and got a 7 day ban with a £700 fine.

Got caught doing 54 in a 30 in a Saxo (funny thing was, slowest car I ever owned and the only one I have been caught in). Anyway, I got 3 points and 60 quid fine, no ban. This was back in 2009 so maybe it has changed since then? Don't really pay attention to UK traffic law changes

I guess the fine was done on % over the limit. And I guess he was in a 70 limit. Any points?
