The reason why it gets brought up is because it is a sexual orientation that many people believe is morally wrong. Homosexual acts were illegal until relatively recently. The only argument that people can raise to support this different expression of human sexuality being treated differently is one of consent.

Up until recently the age of consent for homosexual acts was 21. That has been dropped. Already campaigners want to see it dropped even further. If, as Efour suggests, it gets dropped to 13 then the consent thing slips further out of the picture. If it gets dropped to 13 why not drop it further. As I said already, Peter Tatchell speaks of the "joy" his friend experienced at the age of 9 having sex with an adult.

I have yet to read a single argument from anyone as to why gay rights are OK but paedophile rights are not. It just strikes me as paedophobic and bigoted.

I don't think less than 13 is remotely possible and its deffo bordering on weird side then. Most Euro countries are between 13-16 maybe in the middle then ?

14-15 ?

I cant imagine what its like to be a kid these days. I assume with the Internet you are probably exposed to the world and all its weirdness by a disturbingly young age.

You calling it weird is just you projecting your own view of morality on others though? Why should your views on this be able to get in the way of the happiness of others?

If you don't believe in sex with 12 year olds, then don't have sex with a 12 year old.

Yeah i already supported you mate if you want to read instead of jumping down throats. Dont bite me... This is how the age of consent thing got into the whole sidetrack nonsense and its unrelated.

This implies you'd have no problem having sex with a 13 year old yourself if that age of consent was lowered. Most 13 year olds are not mature enough to be in a sexual relationship. Most 16 year olds struggle with it to be honest.

He made a very good point. You're just showing classical signs of reading too many pseudoscientific psychology books. If the mind was so simple we could understand it, we would be to simple to understand it. I don't see him showing any irrational fears to be called a homophobe. The link is that both sexual desires were illegal, with one becoming legal and the other has activists to make it legal. Boys being the biggest victims of paedophilia is another topic.

The age of consent for a lot of euro zone countries is 13/14. You just called half of Europe pedophiles?

I was just making the point the argument against it is based on subjective morality. I agree that the idea of a child having sex is weird.

From there I just followed the argument along....

The laws against homosexuality were there to protect people. Society has changed, there is no reason it won't change with regards to paedophilia. As has been stated, there is already support from prominent "progressives" to lower the age of consent.

How do you even come to that conclusion without having "mental problems?"

All Swedes have moral issues, because they can joke about death, Very open about gay rights (most of them) and have an age of consent of 15...
