sennheiser outlet silly prices

The HD700 and HD800 are certainly overpriced but the HD650 and HD600 can compete with everything and have a sound that is unmatched in toneality.

I would argue that the hd800 is overpriced but the hd700 is not. Even new you can pick it up for £360 which when you consider it is 90% of the hd800 is perfectly reasonable. Plus to single out sennheiser as overpriced is hardly fair all top end audiophile makers are over priced but it is a very limited market and r&d costs have to be covered. Simply put most people are satisfied with a £50 headset never even considering spending more.

Regarding the hd650s I personally felt they are very overhiped and far to warm...but then again I love the hd700s so to each their own I say!

As an owner of hd 598/600 and 700 , the 700 gets used daily . The 600's are in my drawer , and the 598 are in my 2nd turntable setup . I actually find the 598 better than the 600's .

The 700's took me a while to get into. But even at the £600 I paid for them 16 months ago i'm happy :)

Despite putting cancellation in last night mine have been dispatched. Sod it I'm going to try them out :)

Any recommendations on a warm sounding amp/dac?

Depending on taste the 598 can be better from the listening enjoyment perspective - the 600s being originally aimed at reference type use won't have a sound that is pleasing for everyone. Don't think I'd change mine for anything though.

I liked the sound of the HD598 unamped over the HD600 but fully amped the HD600 is better in every area minus thw soundstage. The HD598 has one of the most natural Soundstages I've heard. The HD800 has a wide soundstage but the thin sound and bright treble make it more emphasised. I think the HD600 and HD600 are the best sounding headphones in the world when it comes to tone.

Possibly due to their origins the 600/650s seem to respond a lot to different amp setups (more than other headphones I've used) - with this current setup I've somehow got fast punchy and extended low end out of them while retaining the more mellow laid back mid-range which is an interesting sound though I miss the slow decay to the bass they are typically known for so on the fence on keeping this configuration.
