This forum on a phone is a disaster.

OcUk members in general (to me at least) seem to defend any shortcomings of the forum despite it's issues. It's like an old school refusal to move the the times mentality.

I like the content here sure, but considering this is an IT forum it's pretty backwards.

That's not the case, we just don't want the forums to become childish and rubbish like most other places.
Sensible shortcomings like no full screen youtube, search just being generally rubbish etc. I've never seen anyone defend.

Both tapatalk and mobile sites are universally terrible. The former has the annoying sales pitch if you don't have it and the latter often defaults and unable to switch back to desktop version.

Quite the opposite really, because it's an IT forum it has remained isolated from the stupid OTT flashy nonsense that has taken over the internet. Look at any site that has been "improved/upgraded/redesigned" since 2000 and almost every one is worse, it may look prettier (debatable) but it's more resource intensive, harder to use, etc.

The OCUK store has actually gained some customers simply by not falling into this trap while competitors made their sites pretty yet harder to navigate lol.

It worked fine for me on Android 4.1, but now I've updated to 4.4 it doesn't... Something relating to your phone/OS/browser I imagine.

The problem with Tapatalk is that 50%+ of users are too dim to turn off the "Sent using Tapatalk for CrapPhone 2000" signatures that it puts at the end of every single post. It's even more annoying than regular sigs.

Well according to Google, the forum is not mobile friendly. This will soon mean it will be penalised from any Google searches.

What is better, is you get a slightly different result on that test depending on the advert in the top right :D

I have never been able to use search, as soon as you try to enter text the search box disappears. I have to go into advanced search instead.

I'd agree that some forums have become extremely bloated and this has remained very 'light', but it's been at the expense of some pretty basic requirements.

As per the post above, font size is way too small, resizing is a pain, search doesn't work correctly, and it just looks very dated. I don't think we need anything flashy, but it does need freshening up, whilst keeping it's core functionality. There have been multiple threads about this lately so clearly people notice.

Also, Tapatalk is great. :P

Disclaimer: I haven't used it for about 3 years so it also may have become bloated. When I did however it was great. No resizing, nice and quick, minimal data use, search and notifications worked etc.

Yeh, fullscreen YouTube would be nice, not sure why it's not been implemented. Don't recall being on any other site where it doesn't work.

And yep, the search function needs fixing.

Still good apart from this, though.

OcUK's version of vBul works much better on mobile devices than newer releases.

Newer vBul has issues with screen placement of text fields and overlaid images, they lock to a point on the display area and you can't pan to them. Always snaps back.

OcUK however, works perfectly. The only thing I wish it had was the black theme for mobile (without having to faff about installing add ons and stuff to make it work before anyone tells me they can do it on Android :)).

no dramas using it on a Note 4 or the old note 10.1 using chrome, some links require a 2nd tap more down to my clumsyness than the forum though, size the text to the screen with a double tap and all is good, havnt tryed any other mobile platforms recently.

I don't mind using advanced search and posts render fine with the text all in all being the same size and perfectly readable without having to zoom in.

No doubt there will be this discussion next month.

Not noticed any issues on iPhone 6 and iOS8... however I don't use my phone for browsing the forum very often.
