My Plusnet fibre has got worse with time :(

He hasn't even asked me to send mine back yet, he's only asked me to confirm my address for delivery of the replacement.

He first asked if i want to return it for a replacement or refund i said i want the correct modem, he then asked for a address to send replacement too and i have heard nothing since

Exactly the same here. Mind, I never had a note to say the original package was dispatched...... His eBay ID is netkomonline

If you don't get a response then you will probably need to open up a case. With regards to return postage I think that will still be at your expense depending on their terms and conditions.

I do think that buying these modems doesn't make much difference just to make everyone else aware. I still have a slower connection with everything Huawei...

I had an ECI modem connected to a Huawei cabinet, replaced the ECI with a Billion modem router and have gained 5 Mb/s download.

I think my example still stands.

Well it's made a big difference for me, you say 'doesn't make much difference' but everyone's line is different so for some it will others it might not.

Reason I went for a Billion rather than getting HG612 was because my Asus router had died, but I have seen on other forums that people have seen good increases in speed since replacing the ECI with a HG612.

If you check above I haven't actually disagreed with you. I'm not denying there could potentially be a small speed increase.

My point is that I have both a Huawei modem and Huawei cab but have still seen my speed drop over the last few months.

Well the new modem turned up today and its the correct type. Not sure if its unlocked yet just changed them over and waiting for my router to settle down

Well so far its even worse :( i guess it might take some time to adjust ?

Would be worth connecting a LAN cable to the LAN2 port and trying to get into the settings to see if its unlocked already. You want;

Software version V100R001C01B030SP08

if its anything other than SP08 then it will not work correctly with G.INP and will give you slower speeds.

off to get laptop and a lan cable lol brb

are you still connected to wifi?

you might manually need to set your laptops network card to 192.168.1.100 255.255.255.0 leave dns and gateway blank

try clearing your cache too

Could be, a way to test would be to go through the steps as if you where going to hack it and see if you get the webgui to upload the firmware.

Have you made sure your Wifi card is disabled or not connected to a network and that you made them ip changes to the ethernet nic and also cleared your browsers cache?

Other than that try the following and see if you can get to step 7 if you get that gui it might be that its not hacked.. Download the firwmware before you try though that way you can just finish the hack :)

1) Set your network card on your pc to the stattic address 192.168.1.100 255.255.255.0 doesnt matter about gateway or DNS leave them blank

2) connect LAN2 on the modem to your PC

3) Make sure the modem is OFF.

4) With the reset button pressed turn the modem ON

5) Keep the reset button pressed while it boots (for 5-10 seconds)

6) Open a web browser and go to 192.168.1.1

7) You will be given a page where you can upload firmware, simply upload the firmware you downloaded (look at the bottom of the post to firmware link)

8) Thats it really, after the modem restarts your modem is flashed (can take a couple of mins), if you go to 192.168.1.1 you will be given a login page default is admin for both user and pass.

http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/hg612unlock.htm is a good place to start to read.
