I do think that buying these modems doesn't make much difference just to make everyone else aware. I still have a slower connection with everything Huawei...
I had an ECI modem connected to a Huawei cabinet, replaced the ECI with a Billion modem router and have gained 5 Mb/s download.
I think my example still stands.
Well it's made a big difference for me, you say 'doesn't make much difference' but everyone's line is different so for some it will others it might not.
Reason I went for a Billion rather than getting HG612 was because my Asus router had died, but I have seen on other forums that people have seen good increases in speed since replacing the ECI with a HG612.
Would be worth connecting a LAN cable to the LAN2 port and trying to get into the settings to see if its unlocked already. You want;
Software version V100R001C01B030SP08
if its anything other than SP08 then it will not work correctly with G.INP and will give you slower speeds.
1) Set your network card on your pc to the stattic address 192.168.1.100 255.255.255.0 doesnt matter about gateway or DNS leave them blank
2) connect LAN2 on the modem to your PC
3) Make sure the modem is OFF.
4) With the reset button pressed turn the modem ON
5) Keep the reset button pressed while it boots (for 5-10 seconds)
6) Open a web browser and go to 192.168.1.1
7) You will be given a page where you can upload firmware, simply upload the firmware you downloaded (look at the bottom of the post to firmware link)
8) Thats it really, after the modem restarts your modem is flashed (can take a couple of mins), if you go to 192.168.1.1 you will be given a login page default is admin for both user and pass.
