980 Ti VS 290X

Actually from that link:

The 980 Ti is,

4K 27% Faster.
1440P 28% Faster.
1080P 29% Faster.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_980_Ti/31.html

Actually 71 + 42 = 101, thats how the maths scale.

But check this out

290X - 970 <4%
290X - 980 <15%
290X - 980TI <42%
290X - TX <45%

290X: 2816 GCN 1.1 Shaders @ 1000Mhz

Fury: 4096 (+45%) GCN1.2? Shaders (+10%) @ 1150Mhz (+15%) HBM (+?%)

Lets say the shader and clock rates scale by 2/3 (realistic for worst case)

Shader performance would come in at about +35%, clock rate would come in at about +9%, GCN 1.1 vs GCN 1.2 about +7% = +51% (TX beaten by 6%)

HBM +?%

Boom you're actualy showing how much slower the 290X is relative to the 980ti (which gives those ~28 percentages). You want to show the other way round, how much faster the 980ti is relative to the 290X. That will give you the ~40%

@ Avenged7Fold

AMD have lost market share because they haven't launched anything new in bloomin ages :D

They need new to launch new products to sell them.

Even if Fiji is a monster AMD have a lot of work to do just to regain the market share they have lost. Every day they don't announce anything is another day Nvidia sell more cards..

Ah ok, surely it's the same either way right?

Except on nVidia games :D:D:D:eek::eek::eek::D:D:D

:p

Not quite how percentages work:
at 1440p it would be (1/0.72)*100 = 39% faster
still a long way from 66% lol

Ah right I see.

980 Ti is quite frankly a beast, and it's price is pretty good tbh.

AMD really need to act fast, they could have the best product in the world waiting in the wings, but bring it to late and the buyers just aren't gonna be there. I've always said AMD have great vision but end up failing in the execution.. Hurry up AMD !

Not one to help Nvidia but those graphs show the 290x is that percentage SLOWER than a 980ti.

If in a theoretical game the 980ti gets 100fps and a 290x gets 71fps at 1080p, then the 290x is 29% SLOWER than a 980ti, but the 980ti is 40% FASTER than a 290x.

Humbug's numbers are more accurate and as such the Fiji would need to be >45% faster than a 290x to be beating 980 ti performance.

However I don't care about TX or 980ti performance, it's irrelevant. Value for the performance given is all I care about. the 980ti drastically increased that metric over the TX and the existing 980. If AMD again produce a card 10% slower but >10% cheaper, I'd upgrade to that over the comparative Nvidia card. If Nvidia have a card that offers better bang for buck than Fiji I'd likely wait for 14nm.

Not necessarily because I just don't want to support a company with terrible business practices, though that is a factor. But there is a level where I feel like I'm getting value for money over what I have. £550 to get 30-40% more performance over what I have now isn't going to do it for me. £400 for 30-40% is still pretty painful but more interesting. If there is again a £300-350 second tier card a la 5850/7950/290 pro, then that would be very interesting. £300-350 for what would probably be 25-30% more performance out of the box but probably more overclocking headroom and only 5-10% performance than a full on Fiji XT is where my money would probably go.

If AMD are going to call it the Fury then they must know its going to beat the TX.

The fact that Nvidia released the 980TI with a 3% performance difference rendering the TX and its massive price tag obsolete means Nvidia also know it.

I agree with you. People are not impressed by a competitive price tag alone, tech moves quickly and few people want to be paying for tech that is 18 months old when they know that a better card could be coming round the corner at similar pricing (with the standard release premiums). Even releasing refreshed lines would be better than not releasing at all. The 280x has been a great seller despite its age. When they were to be released, i remember people saying they should not get a 7970 and they should get a 280x for a little bit more just because it is 'newer'.

Cmon AMD release a little info of what's coming otherwise everyone's money will be going on the ti's

I think AMD's plan is to wait until nearly every gamer has an Nvidia card before launching something new themselves. It's frustrating to see tbh.

Having good products is one thing, actually launching them is important as well.

How many people that have already bought a high end Nvidia GPU will be willing to switch to AMD. I know I would and peeps like Kaap etc but I imagine we are the minority.

They are taking to long.

Its a strange one, AMD have lost market share and it seems they have a card ready given that Gibbo has stock.

And yet AMD are waiting for everyone to spend their money on a 980TI before giving us anything at all.

Nvidia release boring rehashed 28nm, meanwhile AMD are bringing new tech to the masses. In this case I'm willing to give AMD the time to get its **** right

Well said my drunken friend, well said. If only you made as much sense in the football section. Arsenal win FA cup two years in a row, DMs response? Meh.. Lol :p;):D
