Hi everyone

The latest weekly offer for the 512GB Samsung SM951 SSD caught my eye and I thought I'll go for it since I want something I can install all my programs/games on.

I just noticed the PCIE Board is M.2 compatible and I've got a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P-B3 Mobo which doesn't have the M.2 compatible socket.

Since OCUK doesn't stock adapters, can anyone recommend an adapter that I can use for my board?

Thanks
Sandeep

Was just about to start a thread asking the same thing so I can get full speed on my z97 board. Asus are supposed to be releasing one that isn't a horrid green pcb but not sure when.

Plenty of green ones on the bay.

I saw one at Scan (green PCB) but one thing stopped me from purchasing it

*** Samsung PCIe M.2 SSD doesn’t support system boot

The mainboard needs to support NVMe to boot and Windows 8.1 is also needed. My ASUS Z97 has support. The only black PCIe card adapter I have seen is the ASUS one that was included with the X99 Deluxe, all the others are green or red.

Yeah I'd prefer it to be a simple PCI express plug and play. I'm pretty sure the PCIE Lane has more than enough bandwidth for it.

Just checking, does the Intel 750 have the same compatibility issues?

OK so OCUK ended up shipping the SSD as they didn't read my webnote in time. So I'm revisiting this topic and hopefully maybe finding an adapter that'll work for me.

If I go for the Lycom DT-122 do you reckon it'll show as bootable in my Z68 mobo?

I see a lot of references to SATA 3 on this board, will I still get the rated speeds if I use the DT-122?

I want one of these, but I wouldn't bother with adapters, I'd do a mobo/cpu upgrade at the same time.

Had mine come today which I just stuck in onboard m.2 slot on my Z97 which has it transferring speeds of 750mb/s.

Think im going to just stick with it like that for now until I reinstall with windows 10 and a black adaptor gets released.

Edit. Found somewhere that sells the black asus one so got one on order.

Is it only a PCIe 2 connection on your Z97?

Yes think so mate it maxes out at around 740mb/s. The add in card should give full speed.

Thought pcie x2 you would get 3 times the speed of ssd?

The SM951 boasts outstanding performance, supporting both PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 2.0 interfaces. They can read and write sequentially at 1,600 MB/s (megabytes per second) and 1,350 MB/s respectively based on PCIe 2.0. This performance level is approximately three times faster than that of the latest SSD with a SATA interface and about 30 percent faster than that of the Samsung XP941, its predecessor. In addition, the new SSD's random read and write speeds reach up to 130,000 and 85,000 IOPS (inputs / outputs per second) respectively.

Sending mine back, I haven't opened it but don't want to take the risk of it not being bootable using an adapter on my Z68.

I'll probably upgrade to Skylake or Broadwell-E (when it releases) and then buy one of these or whatever's new around that time.
