We had a world exclusive with the first Radeon R9 390X spotted thanks to PowerColor, but now details have leaked on the ASUS Radeon R9 390X DirectCU II OC. The ASUS variant will feature 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, which is in line with our exclusive story on the Fiji XT-based Fury X and Fury featuring HBM, while the 300 series cards will be powered by GDDR5.

The 8GB of RAM being clocked at 6GHz is a change from the 5GHz on the R9 290X, so that's most likely what we can expect from the other Radeon R9 390X cards when they launch. ASUS has two 8-pin PCIe connectors on the card, and an estimated price of around $449 when it launches later this year.

390x confirmed to be a rebranded 290x with 8GB GDDR5. With HBM limited to AMD's Fiji 'Fury' line, TITAN tier halo product.

$449 for an ASUS which usually cost higher than other cards isn't too bad, think we'll see most models below £400. If this leak is to be believed of course.

Wonder where this leaves pricing for the Fury and Fury X now that AMD have followed nVidia with a new tier. I remember people slaughtering nVidia for releasing mid range cards at high end prices. Unless the 390x competes with the 980ti and the Fury cards are way ahead.

Is that with 20% VAT added and the usual UK rip off price bump?

You are right. £295+ 20% = £354.
If it does go for anywhere over £400 then that will be a bad move if it only matches a 970 like the 290X. The current 8gb 290x's are around £400 so sadly the new ones will be that price too.

Does this really warrant its own thread? It's already been discussed in the big 390x thread...

That thread moves quite fast, didn't see this leak in it but yeah if it's already been discussed no need for a new thread.

Edit: Just seen it at the top of the page from humbug.

: / A rebrand of a card that is 1 year and 8 months+ old for nearly £350-400? No thanks.

The only thing I wonder what could be useful to k ow is, What sort of temps it gives out being more "efficient" Could it crossfire with a 290x? since its only a rebrand.

It is going to be very dissapointing if the Fury/HBM card is a silly priced halo card like the Titan.

Surely Nvidia will just clean up with the 980TI if that is the case? I know it is all speculation but if the Fury only matches or slightly beats the 980 TI, is 4gb, needs an AIO water cooler and is priced nearer the Titan X, they are not going to get many sales.

Were we expecting anything else from the non HBM cards? I just assumed they would be just a little better than the existing cards. Had the tech on 28nm changed that much in the last 18 months? Now if Fury turns out to be a load rubbish that's another matter!

I've got no brand loyalty and will just buy whatever is best for the money.
