Smiler rollercoaster at Alton Towers - carriage collision

Looking at the rides carriage I'm surprised that it doesn't look to have any kind of shock absorption other than the frame at the front which obviously crumpled in this situation. Of all the potentially dangerous possibilities two trains colliding has to be one of the more obvious ones so I'm surprised it's not been taken into account.

I'd assume with the controls (that obviously failed) in place that ensure a collision like this should not happen probably provide enough risk reduction not to warrant having such carriages.

Very sad news :( I was reading about something called Compartment Syndrome that often occurs as a result of crush injuries, looks really nasty. Guess this may have been the cause of the amputation :(

I suffer from this in my lower legs if I don't keep my weight down and it's unbelievably painful just in general so I can't imagine how bad it would be with the trauma pain as well.

Hopefully she's diamorphined up to the eyeballs. Poor girl :(

Poor girl, it's hard to even try and imagine such a life changing injury. Really feel for her.

Really? like it's worse because she is attractive?

It's a sad fact of life they people would be a lot less fussed by this if the people injured were middle aged and unattractive.
