**** Sony Xperia Z3 ****

Damn. Did you have a case on?

No, I've never been one for using cases, and the Z3 is too dam sexy to be hidden away behind a case, obviously there are downsides to this approach however lol.

Ordered a replacement which arrived yesterday, so back up and running now.

I was without my phone for two days and was pretty much suffering severe withdrawal :)

Get a tempered screen protector from now on, at least that will absorb screen impacts!

Gah, the flap is still bothering me....

Don't use the flap Mate - get a magnetic charger cable. Make sure it's a good quality one.

So this happened.... :(

Daaaammmmnnn Man...WTH?

Do you not find this alters the interaction, even mildly?

Any personal recommendations? I've heard about one call Phantom Glass.

No, you can only tell the difference around the edge of the screen as it's rounded not flush with the edge. They're made of glass, so feel identical to use, no loss of sensitivity either. I use the Pthink one on Amazon.

They're a massive difference to the old plastic ones, which were so bad I just chanced it without protection, with the tempered glass though, there is no reason not to use it really.

Tell me about it, lol.

Ah, thanks, I think I'll invest in one and give it a try.

My Galaxy S3 just died :(. Dropped it and now it wont turn on. Is it time for a Z3? Best Sim free seems to be £348 from the rain forest. Any reason not to? Has Android L started to deploy yet - I had it running on my s3 and it was very nice.

L has been out a while and yup, it's pretty glorious. Install the stock theme and you've got yourself a stock Lollipop look and feel throughout.

Z3 has had Lollipop for a while now, mine is a sim free with no network branding and is running 5.0.2, which I think is as up to date as it gets atm for the Z3.

No reason not to get one, best phone I've ever had, really glad I decided to look outside the Samsung Galaxy range in the end, it's brilliant.

Ordered :)
Casemate barely there - might not use but will see how it feels
Pthink 0.3mm tempered glass protector
Magnetor x2 magnetic charge cable

Had my S3 for three years so probably due a change

I ordered pretty much exactly the same. The casemate is definitely worth using and the pthink is lovely!

am I the only one that thinks its a little weird you need to get a screen protector for the back of a phone that doesn't have a screen?

It's made of glass so a protector stops it getting scratched and damaged. A tempered one will absorb bumps too so the back panel won't shatter in most cases.

I understand that Robbie... just strikes me as an odd design choice. serious case of form over function which I can't get my head around. let's make something that looks great but neccitates being covered up/obscured to be used in every day usage.
not a dig at Sony as Samsung have done the same.. just a general "wtf are phone manufacturers thinking when they design phones"! :)

The back isn't meant to serve any function :p It's just a glass back and part of the Xperia identity, being anything else would make it a phone that isn't an Xperia :p

the xperia z4 tablet thankfully has a nice rubberised plastic back which not only offers a grippy texture but also doesn't require a "screen" protector. hope this logic extends to their future phones!

Problem with rubberised backs is that they look worse for wear over time. My galaxy Tab 10.1 has a rubberised back and it's full of scuffs and has gone shiner around the corners and edges where it's held the most. There's no way to restore that finish once it gets to that kind of stage. I have Lumia phones at work with the same issue where the matte wears down and it looks more dated than it actually is.

At least with glass you can wipe it or polish it.
