can we leave the bun fight about older cards to another thread please, it's been done many times before and it's getting old.

8 packs world record with the 290X was 1300 MHz that said, 1700 would be possible on ln2 if Amd have given the New Gpu 980-like qualities.

considering the 980 classy hit 2.3ghz under ln2 it is not impossible to consider a new Amd chip hitting that (1700).

It's slower than a 970GTX.

There you go, here's a leaflet come back in a days time :p

That's a 390 and not an x against an out of the box overclocked 970. It is scoring a decent bit better than my 1040/1350 290 in the overall/graphics score. It looks like it will be faster than a stock 970 or there about which we all know a standard 290 isn't. I am still not convinced it's a straight 290 after seeing those results.

Someone at Linus Tech Tips bought the 390 and was benchmarking it compared to the 970.
It's slightly weaker, but cooler under Furmark.

Cooler under furmark? :/ guy is an idiot, furmark is totally useless to guage anything.
It's in no way representative of any real workload plus both vendors have furmark-specific code to regulate their temperature when some idiot decides to try and cook their card using it so temps are well beyond meaningless.

Anyone who runs furmark on a GPU shouldn't have the privilege of owning a GPU.

Talk about ungrateful. They guy has bought card that a lot of geeks have been talking about for months and want to see how it performs against the competition and all you can do is run him down. :o

Well yeah if he thinks furmark is a good test.

I think most people are more bothered about the Fury cards than rebrands though.

After reading the thread some more his 1000/1500 390 is faster than my 1040/1350 290 by a decent margin. If his results are true then i think there has been improvements made. My card at 1040/1350 matches up with a stock 290x so the 390 is faster than a stock 290x with the only clock difference being 1000/1250 290x and 1000/1500 for the 390.

I think realistically, anyone that knows what they are talking about regarding GPU's, if the 390X comes in under £350 they'll sell. This could be the final nail in AMD's coffin if they are more expensive than that.
