*** Sony Xperia Z3 Compact ***

The AF is better on the Nexus but PQ wise is about the same tbh. They both suffer in poor lighting, in good lighting though it's fine.

Fair trade off considering how epic the battery is :)

I'm just looking at what to upgrade the nexus 5 too. No phone offers a compelling reason yet. More of an interest rather than serious consideration.

Is the camera that bad? Is the camera better than the Nexus 5? I always thought sony phones had a decent cameras?

Haven't tried the Nexus. My compact really struggled to focus and take a decent picture, even with the flash on.. maybe I had a duff unit. :p

You also have other potential issues with the audio jack failing, glass randomly cracking and magnetic ports falling out.

Is anyone using SwiftKey and whatsapp? I have this weird issue when trying to type a reply to a message notification on the lock screen, it goes all flickery as soon as i enter the text box to bring up the keyboard. Anyone else experience this?

WhatsApp allows you to message in the lockscreen?!

I've had the flicker on the Z3 with Textra's popup dialogue which auto loads the keyboard and dismissed it as a Textra issue, but now you mention WA and it all makes sense it's a Swiftkey issue.

Yep, was working fine with the standard keyboard but standard keyboard has horrible autocorrect, so I upgraded to swiftkey. The loss of lockscreen typing is a shame but the keyboard is so far ahead I can't go back!

Having had and loved the Nexus 5 I can say that the Z3 Compact is basically the same phone with some additional nice things to have, those being:

  • Hugely improved battery
  • More solid feel, better build quality IMO
  • Waterproofing

For the most part they're the same/similar. The screen is ever so slightly better on the N5, but that doesn't mean that the one on the Z3C is bad at all.

If you fancy having a play about with mine, we can meet up for a beer next week?

Can show you the phone as well.

The pictures tend to look a bit like a noisy oil painting in anything other than ideal light. They are fine in good light though if lacking sharpness.

Shame, because Sony make the best small camera sensors in the business and the Z range could obliterate everything out there with its sharp looking UI and quite frankly amazing battery life if they decided to really mean business.

I've ended up going for a S6 for the camera, which has a UI that looks like its been designed by my 3 year old and a 3 hour battery....

Every phone has "potential issues" though. Mine has been fine and the camera mostly takes nice photos.

Just sent it in bubble wrap in a normal envelope. Don't send the box or accessories as they say u won't get them back. Replacement phone was sent to me in a plain cardboard box.

Yeah that's what I was unsure about as I sent a n5 off before and didn't get the box back so was unsure what Sony are like

Does the the compact have a sim tray like the z3?probably want to keep that too unless the issue is the sim part...

You sending it to sbe? If so opt for the courier collection, that way it's covered for loss or damage in transit.

Yeh. Cos the post office will ask you what's in it. The fee post is covered for normal 1st class compensation.

Will cost £7 to post special

Up to you really

My phone been playing up last few days, firstly noticed my headphone jack isn't working properly and only outputting from one side (left) and then just had to reset it using the little yellow button as none of the buttons (volume, power etc) were working. Think I'm going to drop it in at some point and get it repaired. Bit annoying as I've only had it about a month.
