Woman eats cereal while driving her Land Rover

I'm not a cyclist, nor am I a driver. From that point of view I can't believe people are seriously defending her. Next thing it will be 'ok for Dave to drink a beer at the wheel because he can handle one or two pints alright'. Madness.

She's driving without due care and attention to the road. End of story. She's a danger to herself and most of all a danger to everyone around her. Even if she is inching forward in traffic, what if she decides to move ahead, puts her head down to take a mouthful of cereal -- and at the same time someone decides to cross the road in front of her? Pedestrians always nip out in front of cars in traffic. What happened when she got out onto the roundabout and suddenly has to do 30mph to keep up with the traffic. Can she change gear? Can she even turn round the roundabout with one hand? Can she signal whilst going round, more importantly? What happens when she fails to signal and somebody pulls out in front of her? There's so many ways the situation could change in an instant.

Can someone explain to me what the problem is? It's only a bowl of cereal. You guys are making out like its something bad. Jeez.

Which law is she breaking?

I see the cyclist cause at minimum 3 unique infractions...

It's the cyclist who appears to not care about any road user other than himself...

Driving without due care and attention, Section 3 RTA 1988.

*edit* Just seen that you think that she isn't driving without due care and attention.

I'm guessing from your comments you don't drive, as you clearly have no idea why not having your full attention on the road is an issue.

I'd love to know what infractions the cyclist committed... Actually, don't bother, I know you'll be wrong about that as well.

I'll let you get back to your fellow mouthbreathers on the Daily Mail.

It's a hypothetical one I think

If the range rovers sensors, brake and automatic gearbox failed whilst at the same time someone ran in front of the car, and if the driver was bent down taking a mouthful of her shreddies, there could have been a fatality

What actually happened was some idiot on the cycle was being a peeping tom, looking at people through car windows (obviously not paying attention to where he was going) and starting harassing the woman (car jealousy)

Most people side with the driver

I've already said that range rovers are fitted with sensors and have avoidance detection systems. If cyclists can't see a range rover (they are kinda big) then they need to perhaps remove their head bandanas, sunglasses, go-pros, headphones etc etc and pay better attention

It's not a Range Rover, it's a Discovery. How do you know her vehicle has said system fitted?

If the driver was just going about their business then yes most people would side with her. But she was doing something incredibly stupid and dangerous. It doenst take much to lose concentration and scoffing down a load of cereal with milk in a bowl while being in control of a vehicle is ridiculous and she deserves to be done for dangerous driving or at the very least without due care and attention.

Would have been funny tho if she had bumped into the driver in front, set off the air bag as she was taking a mouthful and got the bowl embedded in her face.

I thought the cyclist was quite mild mannered, good on him for having a helmet cam.

What would have been impressive is if she had a slow cooker in the car and served up dinner for the return journey. Joking aside I hope the police throw the book at the stupid bint.

She appears to be paying attention to the road, the vehicles around her and also the violent cyclist she might be worried is about to attack her.

So no... you're wrong.

Um, I don't think you have a clue how the Road Traffic Act works if you think Driving Without Due Care and Attention is just a philosophical debating point.

Also, you forgot the "due care" of that title. Having both hands on the steering wheel is part of that bit for a start. Even "tuning a car radio; when the driver was avoidably distracted by this action" is included so of course holding a bowl of cereal and a spoon in moving traffic falls under the law.

What an utter prat that cyclist is, i hate these vigilante idiots who think they have the right to police other people.

Id have been tempted to get out of my Land Rover and throw a keyboard right at him.
