Is the 980ti making the 980 obsolete?

Would you guys say me buying a EVGA SC 980 in the MM £335 to be a bad deal?

Was really tempted with the 980 before the 980 Ti came out, if I'm spending £350-400 on a card I think oh well might aswell pay an extra £150 or so and get the Ti then won't need to upgrade again for a very long time, have left it long enough as it is :D

Looking forward to going back to the green team... lol

That's the consensus of most ... If you have 980 money for a gtx card ... Stay in a few weekends and spaff 550 on a ti... Makes sense in the long run

I can buy a Gigabyte G1 gaming 980 gtx with free batman knight game for £372.52 including postage brand new from a good online store still don't think it's worth it though offer ends midnight other makes to at around the same price.

Would buy new 980 gtx for £299 max second hand £250 max for a good model £335 MM sounds like a rip off price to me lol.

Can get EVGA NVIDIA GTX TITAN X can get for £710 free postage second hand 2 months old using a £50 off code that ends midnight still too pricy.

Or 970 gtx gigabyte windforce OC plus free game for £230.82 brand new including postage.

Not at all, good deal. EVGA are a great brand and it's an excellent card.

Thing to remember here is that yes, lots of people are selling 980's, but these are people who want the best card... hence them buying the 980 in the first place. So naturally now they want to jump to the 980Ti. Does that make the 980 obsolete, not remotely... it's no lesser a card than it was months ago, and will still offer excellent performance. There will no doubt be an identical thread to this next year when Pascal is released, asking if the 980Ti is obsolete lol!! ;)

If the 980ti renders the 980 obsolete then what has it done to the Titan X?

The fact is, the 980ti wasn't available when most people bought the 980 or Titan X so this thread is a bit irrelevant. Expect similar threads when the Pascal cards come out and the thought of paying £600+ for a 980ti seems silly.

If you want the best on offer at the time, you pay the price. Has it ever been any different?

What will happen to the ti if the fury x beats it....will it drop in price ?

Nvidia have sales projections based on recent sales of the Titan X and 980. Basically, they know how many cards they expect to sell per week based on past data. If the sales are a significant % below target, then they'll know it's down to Fury and they'll act to regain the market share.

I would expect the process to take weeks, if not months to happen, if it happens at all.

i would agree, i bought my 980s first off under the impression the 980ti would be out next year and they still are great performing cards seeing as they are around £400 and the ti £600. Although like you say you might aswell put a little more and get a 980 Ti. Im selling my 980s as soon as my 980ti's arrive.

The 980ti's seem perfect pricing and performance for 4k unlike the titan x, atleast untill pascal is released anyway.

Make that £499.99 now! (Well, for at least this weekend!)

Yup it does feel like the 980's weren't king of the hill for very long, especially given their price point. Oh well...

They have been out 9 months! That is a decent amount of time in computer tech terms.

It is the Titan X/980Ti and Fury longevity I would be wary of as I reckon the next gen die shrunk cards with HBM2 will be beastly and make a Titan X look slow.

You're realistically looking at £540 for a 980ti and £280 fire a 970, but it seems people don't want to pay £400 for a 980 but it's a fair price when you consider the other two?

I think now the cheapest is £360 they are getting close to where they should be (ie around the £350 mark)
