I'm after a new pad and polish for my machine polisher if anyone can offer me any advice?

I bought my setup a few years ago but as you can see the pad is really worn and I'm just about out of my current polish which is Menzerna Intensive Polish.

It's a 6 inch polisher and my car is a BMW so fairly hard paint if I recall, it has some quite deep swirls as it hasn't been polished for a few years, it also has marks in the paintwork from bird droppings.

Just been to Tesco to pick up some toilet rolls, they had Simoniz Carnuba Wax on clearance @ £3.00 so thought I would give it a go.

Reviews seem to say it is a great wax, just takes a bit of elbow grease compared to the newer more modern waxes. Anyone else use it?

I've used it, thought I would give it a go for £3. It is a bit of a mission to get it on and buff it off. Use a warm damp cloth to put it on and it spreads quite easy. If you leave it on a bit too long then a damp cloth to buff it off removes it quite nicely. It has actually got me looking into the sealant route as I like my car to look nice and clean and be protected but I can't be bothered with the effort it takes to wax the car.

Any recommendations on sealants anyone?

Protection wise I have seen good beading a month later so its pretty good although when I cleaned my car it seemed to strip the wax off, maybe that was down to using warm water or cheap wash and wax shampoo, I'm not sure. It just seems to chuck it down a day later when I spend the time putting it on the car :(

Their bug and tar remover is pretty good.

The easiest sealant has got to be Car Pro Hydro2.

Literally spray on and pressure wash off, 3 months of beading magic and protection.
 
For a sealant, I'd go for CarPro Reload 2015 or Gtechniq C2V3.

Better than waxes like Collinite and easier to apply.
 
Went rifling through the garage tonight where I knew I had an old broke spray gun and some assorted Hozelock attachments. Took the spray gun apart and managed to knock up this thingymajig doofer...

Means I can now rinse the car from an open hose, without having to awkwardly jam the piece of hose into the connector on the end of the main hose reel. Can now just plug it in, then unplug it when done to stop the water flow.

Surprising how much easier it is to dry a waxed car after rinsing with an open hose. Most of the water just falls off so you just need to mop up the remaining drops. Had the car washed, dried and all tools put away within an hour :)

Yes, exactly what I have used in the past. G3 applicator pads are better for applying the polish...i often add a few layers. Remember to give the EGP time to bind to the paint...it lasts much longer if you do.

I want to see a side by side comparison vs Collinite 476s. Surely it can't outlast the 12 months of 476s?

Either way,. I've bought Tripple, a set of new buffing towels and a new drying large towel from CYC. Ready for an epic battle with swirls. If Tripple does what I've read it does then I think I've nailed the car care products to a T now and will simply top them up when one is out.

Wheels: Bilberry.
Snow foam: Maxisuds.
Shampoo: Maxisuds or Triplewax.
Polish: SRP, though will be replaced by Autofinesse Tripple now.
Wax: Collinite 476s.
Quick detailer drying aid: Anything cheap, the sole purpose is to remove water marks when drying.
Glass cleaner: Aristowax Invisible Windows Crystal Clear (came across this in a local shop, it's like a very fine wax for glass, without any residue or streaks!
Trim/Dash/Tyres: Poorboys Natural Look dressing.

Maxi suds is great, it's what I use. It's very "slippery" too - combination with the lambs wool wash mitt I have to put no pressure on it when washing which I am sure helps prevent swirls, as does the ease of which you can rub all the deposits off when rinsing it. As long as your drying and QD cloths are clean then I can't see you introducing any swirls unless you're pressing too hard. The paint can't be that soft :D
 
You can't really compare Collinite to desire.

476s is just a cheap basic wax made for durability. From my experience it tends to also dampen metallic paint fleck in direct sunlight. Desire on the other hand actually adds depth and gloss.

Tbh I'm still surprised people bother will Collinite unless they only want to add protection once a year.

A spray like Reload 2015 is easier to apply, creates a glossier finish and lasts 4-6 months (by which point I would always want to re-apply polish)

You'll really like Tripple I prefer it to SRP and also fills extremely well via DA

Think I might pick up a black pad and some tripple as well as you paint on the left looks very similar to mine.

So far in the hour or 2 I have spent on my boot lid using 105 and orange pads I have managed to get rid of some swirls but the ones you really notice in the sunshine are still there. Was hoping to have a good go at it yesterday under the cloud cover but it started raining after an hour or so and today the paintwork is far to hot in the sun to carry on.

If that tripple works I can remove all the minor swirls quite quickly and then use that to hide the rest or I may well be polishing my car for the next 6 months with no where inside to do it.

What car is it? Perhaps need to go for some more cut if you're using an orange hexlogic pad. Perhaps Menzerna FG400?
 
Reload 2015 seems interesting. What does it do?

I've lost the will to spend days detailing my car these days. I just gave it a wash and dry and it looks great and bizarrely still beads well even though I've never waxed it and I've had it over a year :confused:

Sealant you can put over polish. Spray on, wipe off, done.

Works on everything and alloys too.
