What film did you watch last night?

Entourage - 4/10

As a massive fan of the show, I was left hugely disappointed after watching the film. I felt like the basic premise of the storyline could have easily suffice another season of Entourage...but it is what it is...

Entourage: 7/10

Massive fan of the show and the film is basically an extra half season of the show. Basically if you didn't watch the show do not see it as you won't really get what is going on and the inside jokes. If you did watch the show then it's worth seeing as a continuation of the story.

Ari gold, best TV character ever.

Kon-Tiki - No rip roaring, barely believable action/adventure movie but an excellent dramatization of real life adventure. Beautifully filmed, well acted, a little slow at times but then so was the voyage across the pacific. 7/10

We went to watch Jurrasic World yesterday in 3D at a Imax screen and whilst the 3D and CGI was just about acceptable, considering how good the first one was all those years ago, the story was mediocre at best.

Not a bad film but not sure if it was worth £30 or so it scost to see it.

4/10 - below average.

I was surprised to see how much weight Vincent D'Onofrio had put on, not having seen him in a film for a few years.

Jurassic World - I was expecting to be disappointed by this after some of the reviews but it wasn't as bad. It was OK, which I suppose was a disappointment but then the other Jurassic Park films were pale imitations of the first.

As Vimes says above it was acceptable but I suppose no film will ever wow us again like Jurassic Park did the first time twenty years ago. 3/5

Poltergiest.

Its a modern day take on the classic horror film, the characters are poor, the family are not a group of people you want to care for.
Overall an unimpressive 2/5 for me.

watched Jurassic Park sponsored by Mercedes and Samsung.

Was ok, took a while to get going for me but the last 40 mins was enjoyable.

Not as good as the second but better than the 3rd, obviously not a patch on the first.

Too much product placement.

I really enjoyed Kingsman, but worthy of 9.5/10? I dunno, I rated it like, 8/10 I think.

Watched Blitz, classic Statham, one of his weaker films though. 6/10 at best, didn't entertain and not enough action to keep it interesting.

Cinderella

So this is how you tell a story that has been told a million times and some how make it magical. I don't even like the original that much and always thought the story itself is for girls (which it is), but when Cinderella first walk into that ballroom, the hairs on the back of my neck, and my arms, all stood up...and I had an enormous grin on my face at the end of the movie.

The casting is impeccable, especially for the lead, both Cinderella and the evil step mother. Also, it is amazing how a story that could be told in about 10 minutes lasted over an hour and a half yet it didn't feel like it dragged at all.

I also thought that music score was very well done, it lifted the scene at all the perfect time, to the exact note, perfectly elevated each important moment.

9/10

Much better than the original anime version.

Jurassic world

Maybe just getting stuck in my ways at my old age of 26 but cannot help but feel movies were better back in my day :p

My biggest gripe with modern films is actually the introduction of HD, the picture always seems to be so cold and clinical giving everything a blue filtered effect. Total mood killer for me as I prefer warm tones despite them making images look older and dirtier.

As for the plot however, trained raptors...wtf

Haha this is soooo true.

San Andreas also had a LOT of Apple placement in it. If I remember correctly there is a scene at the start where every student in a study hall seems to have a Macbook on them.

Quite a few this weekend.

Dark City

Nice concept, great noir vibe, good effects (for the 90s), cheesy as hell final battle.

6/10

The A-Team

Never got around to seeing this, so the gf made me, and I am glad she did! Rip-roaring action, laughs, and general great modern homage to the original show. Murdoch had me in stitches with his 'fake' South African accent "you can't always put CNN on top"

7.5/10

V for Vendetta

As much as I love Portman, her British accent was pretty bad. Still, film was gripping and very enjoyable, loved the whole take on a dystopian world not super-futuristic. The final fight-scene was kick-ass!

8/10

The Iron Giant

Never bothered with this because even when it came out it seemed too kiddy for me. Pleasantly surprised, good animation, good laughs, and a touching (if unoriginal) story.

6/10

The Rover - 5/10

A bit weird. I think it was trying a bit too hard, it could have been quite a fast-paced and more exciting film if they had just picked up the pace a bit. Instead every shot seemed to drag on just too long (the first shot in the film is a good example). Just kinda annoyed me after a while.

But, nice look to it. Interesting world they created.

Jurrasic Park 1 from 1993, I felt really old watching it,I remember watching it the cinema

as a kid, thought i'd rewatch it before seeing the new one :)

I agree, too many films have horrible colour filters these days. Look at Man of Steel, unnecessarily dark and lacking in colour. Thanks to the success of Nolan's Batman films, WB had a hard on for making Superman look dour.

I'm sure I saw a video where someone removed the filter effect from a JW, and it looked much better with more natural colour.

A green filter was added to LotR: Fellowship of the Ring Blu-ray extended version. That wasn't a good look at all in my opinion. :(

God knows how many films have been made to look worse by someone's fondness for adding unnecessary filters.
