Are you still in contact with any of your old teachers

Depressingly, the nursery and infant's school I went to burnt down and are now the site of a branch of Co-op food, my primary school is now retirement apartments and my high school, which was highly regarded during my time there, is in special measures.

Bumped into one of my high school teachers a few years ago in a pub, and he'd quit teaching because of the complete break down of discipline amongst the students. In essence the only tools he had to maintain order were 30 minutes detention and internal suspension when students were becoming too disruptive, and none of these were any kind of deterrent anymore. It was a shame, because his lesson's were one of the subjects I excelled in, physics, probably because of his ability to put across his enthusiasm for the subject.

Think I'm in the older generation where teachers didn't want anything to do with pupils out of school hours.

My friend got an IT apprenticeship straight out of school in the same school we all went to, so met quite a few of them out on the drink on nights out. Odd to say the least to listen to an English teacher talk aloud about anal sex while sitting right next to you in the taxi and no there was just a whole bunch of us getting to the next pub :P

I must admit some of my teachers were pretty good, not sure how they managed to stay in their job. Remember our Rugby team going to watch England Rugby under 21s on a school day. Spent most of the second half in the club house enjoying a few beers with the PE teachers.

That said the biggest legend of High School was the English teacher, he was as cool as they come and he knew it. I remember being in a bar with friends in town on a Saturday night when I was 16. In he comes with 2 very nice blonde girls around his arm. Went up to him had a chat, asked him by us a drink but we ended up buying him his drinks.

Not seen him since but no doubt he's still the only guy ever to pull off pink socks with a suit.

most teachers avoid social media for many reasons.

It's in their contracts in some cases that they're not allowed to have social media accounts, although most of the ones I know just change their name to their first and middle rather than using their last names.

I don't keep in contact with any of mine although a few are on FB as they're friends with people I went to school with.

I wouldn't mind meeting up with a few of them for a beer though, we used to bump into them when we went out drinking when we were still at school and would usually have a couple of drinks with the decent ones.

Having worked in a school, and having a wife who's a teacher, I know a lot of teachers and a lot of them do this. They're all actively encouraged to make sure their accounts are locked down and that they don't accept any friend requests from current (and even old) pupils. I know one teacher I used to work with didn't have her profile locked down, had pupils as friends, and had pictures of herself smoking something illegal. Needless to say this didn't go down well when it was reported!

Bump into the odd one around Christmas time when out for drinks but apart from that no.

To be honest would love to bump into a few of them whos lives were made hell by sme students just to let them know how little these people have done with their lives and those who looked up to them really have pushed on and done really well.

Teachers really do help you get on the right ladder in life.

edit: Actually on point, I've had plenty of opportunity to do so, and managed to retain good relationships with various teachers all throughout school life (one used to call me "Uncle" 'cause I supposedly looked like one of his uncles :p), but I'm not too sure if I want to do so. Mainly because it comes down to using Facebook for the most part, but also since I think it would be weird trying to hold a conversation. Leave it in the past. Sure, it might be nice for a few minutes to reminisce on school days past, and how far both you and the teacher have come, but I'd rather just leave it on the good memories.

Quite a few of my friends are now teachers so have served their probationary periods with some of our older teachers and established friendships. Always seems strange on a night out drinking with your old teachers!

Teachers? No. I am still in contact with a couple of my university lecturers though.

I do wonder what my teachers would think of how I turned out.

I went to school in the 70s/80s never once felt inspired or encouraged, but then that was a pit town where you was expected to amount to nothing.

would like to meet them again to give them the bird and show off my posh cars.
