*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

vanguard marks, is 200 max you can have? only just realised.... lost out on some marks over the last 2 weeks then lol....
Yup, 200 Vanguard and 200 Crucible marks. I tend to be maxed out on both so I make sure I spent some each week before I do the Nightfall and stuff, like buying some planetary materials I'm in need of.

Ahh the armchair developers have given me some amusing afternoon LOLs :D

Pro-tip if you want to save your ranting: games aren't designed and balanced for YOU*

Case in point ? the Atheon "fix" on who got sent into the portals. Everybody said loud and clear that they prefered the method where they could chose who went in as it made it more tactical.

Bungie gave us a big *%!$ you and kept it the way they wanted.

Really, all 20 million plus people that play Destiny wrote to Bungie to say they didn't want random teleports on Atheon?

Random is much better, means everyone on the team needs to know each role in order to work effectively, rather than having 3 lemons just standing around the whole fight just killing harpies...zzzz

Ah, the weapon balancing! So your proposed solution is to completely ignore the game data telling them that the vast majority of weapons were being ignored because ARs were overpowered? In what world is that going to make the game better?

LOL I remember when they lied about the Atheon teleport glitch and how it was 'random' the furthest away were teleported rather than coded that way.

Bungie is a sub-par developer so Id be cautious in any offerings they give to persuade you to buy their next DLC - even if tomorrow alleviates some qualms you have to question why their PR was setup to announce things in such order.

ps3ud0

Obviously it was programmed the 3 furthest back but I think it was done that way as to appear random but it was a simply mechanic which got figured out very quickly so Bungie had to change it.

My bigger gripe has always been with the Templar fight, Bungie set a raid which had puzzles for the community to solve. Pushing the templar off was a cheese but using the pillars at the side was a good technique for the fight.

That interview has caused a ****storm though and Bungie do have some fire fighting to do. It will be interesting to see what comes out of Bungie between now and the release of TTK.

Edit: Mid_gen, I think the teleporting falls similar to the Templar fight. Bungie presented the raid as a puzzle, something for the community to solve and find their own way of doing it. Apparently though, when the community find a way Bungie hadn't thought of or don't like it is patched out. It isn't annoying enough to stop me playing Destiny but it is annoying as the raid stops being what Bungie proposed.

While I don't personally have an issue with it being random, I do feel it actually goes against the way the rest of the raid is set up....

Opening the door - you split into teams of your choosing to open the portals and keep them open.
Defending the confluxes - you split into teams of your choosing to defend the conflux
Destroy the oracles - you split into teams of your choosing to cover each area effectively
Defeating the Templar - you pick a relic holder and work as a team to defeat the Templar
Defeating the Gatekeepers - you split into groups of your choosing to open portals, enter the portals, destroy the Gatekeepers and then pick up the relic
Defeat Atheon - you don't get to choose a thing, it's virtually all random except for which one of 3 random players will pick up the relic, assuming one of you even wants the job

That's the only issue I have with it. The rest of the raid teaches you to pick a role and to learn that role, yet the final part of it goes against the grain and makes it all random.

It was not obviously programmed that way.

The reality is that coders don't write code that isn't explicitly requested by the designers, time pressures are ridiculous enough without making extra work for yourself.

The most likely explanation is that the furthest players were being selected through some quirk of the engine data structures and the algorithms being used to fetch them...pretty likely considering the selection criteria appeared to be the greatest/lowest position value on a particular axis.

When this became evident to the designers, they patched it sharpish because that's not the way they intended the encounter to work.

they already have this, but you have to chose to opt into it. Anybody in patrol mode can chose to opt into it when in the same zone as others who can also enter into the same voice channel. This works for match made fireteams in crucible. Have you never noticed the text prompt that the "Team voice chat now available" at the bottom in crucible games ?

Its been there since last year ! in patch 1.0.3

Ive tried it a lot of times, and just never heard anyone so I just assumed it didn't do what I thought it was meant too do, interesting. Maybe less people then I expected have mics, or just never opt in. I typically opt in right away at the start of ever match and try but gave up after a month of never once hearing someone.

Not many people use it. I was doing some Skirmish earlier and the other two guys joined the channel but then proceeded to run around on their own getting murdered by a fireteam all in trials gear, dumbasses.

Don't know if it works with randoms on patrol though...thought it was only fireteams.

I think the Prison of Elders gives you two exotics per week. So I wouldn't bother wasting treasure keys after you've got them.

Maybe if it was an opt out system it would encourage people to communicate more, I always hate it in control when people get excited and push in to far, flip spawns, or capture all 3 and just ruin the game. I was playing some skirmish last night and I ended up giving up and just trying to solo everyone, expect one round when I had a Lv8 with an AR so I would res him/her and try let him/her get a few kills.

From what I've read 28-34 gives 1, and then 35 gives 1 so best to save your keys.

I have to disagree with you there.

I've played MMO / RPG type games where once you leave the confines of the "safe" zone in the city, its essentially a free for all where you can PVP or PVE in the same zone.

Not a fan at all and much prefer to have PVP in a separate crucible arena and be able to play PVE on free roam where nobody can grief me. I've also played games where they have open mics and I'm not a fan of this either. You just end up getting people chewing their mikes, blaring music, shouting at their kids / pets etc.. and theres either nothing you can do about it, or you have to set about muting everybody making nose one by one.

The free roam system on patrol mode works just fine for me. Everybody is free to play how they want and nobody can touch anybody else. Quite often you'll find these players start to work together like in the public events.

Destiny is hugely popular, and I'd rather they not change fundamental things about the game I like (such as this) to go try and chasing more players, because they will just upset the existing players that have put so much effort into their characters.

Who said anything about them changing things? What I was getting at was that the game could have been so much more then just grinding the same bounties daily and the same nightfalls/raids once a week. What I mentioned was just an example and would have worked fine for both PvE and PvP types of players due to the way you're matched together on Patrol in the first place, all it would need is an option to disable PvP before you start match making for patrol which is all it is, it's not like it's a giant dedicated world/server where everyone plays together. Depending on who has it enabled or disabled you would then be matched into the correct lobby.

FLMAO....tell me someone is making this stuff up!?

The quest will be exclusive to Red Bull via an access code under the tab of promotional cans that can be entered on the site and requires The Taken King to be able to play. Drinkers will also get a one time consumable Bonus XP buff that will increase XP gain by 50% for 30 minutes and each marked can of caffeine will include a code. The XP boost will be available from the 1st of July, while the quest will be launching with the Taken King on September the 15th.

THis is a new legendary kind of bad.

I just read about the Red Bull quest and after I finished laughing I just had to come here and laugh some more. What a shame, I did actually have a lot of fun playing Destiny but BS like this and the expansion price is just taking the ****.

Just picked this up for my (also new) PS4.

Being a grumpy old PC gamer I absolutely hate playing FPS on joypads, but it was only £9.50 so figured I'd see what all the fuss was about.

Is there any class that has a minimum of shooting and lots more... something else? Swords, grenades, AOE stuff, etc.
