Why do people do this???

You should try motorway driving when limited to 60/62 and having to deal with the cars that drive at 55 then speed up when you try to overtake.
You would have a coronary :P

There is a national speed limit into road my town, people do 40MPH and then when it changes to 40MPH as it passes a busy stable/riding school people speed up to 60MPH around a blind corner where there is always people crossing with horses.

The section of the road that is 60MPH is longer than the 40MPH stretch too. People just don't have a clue.

I get the "one speed" for every road, everyday I go to work, I just overtake them and carry o with my life

Note that I was stuck behind this van for a while in a built up area, been driving behind this van for at least 5 mins.
He constantly drove below speed limits , 25 ish @ 30 mph at best. Now at this last traffic light where the video begins, suddenly he's ''in a hurry''.

I was sick of him so I was able to overtake him, but he was obviously suddenly flooring it ( luckily slow white diesel vans are not very fast) and I overtook him, had to do twice the speed limit for a second there though.

I drive according to what I think is safe for the road, not what the limit is. Perhaps he was doing something similar?

And the people who come to a hill and try going up it in 5th gear and then wait until they to about 25-30mph and then change down to 2nd or 3rd.

Yeah, I really hate being behind people who can't maintain constant speed on a long national speed limit A road and drop from 60mph down to 40mph every time they go up hill a little ....I try and overtake them!

It annoys me that I can't overtake frustrating drivers unless some exceptional circumstance means that there is a mile of clear road the other way which I can see. The joys of having 54BHP at your disposal! :p

I have one of the slowest cars on the road, but I still drive at a reasonable speed...

When I had my 1.3 fiesta I used to leave a gap then accelerate through the bends. When I came out of the bends I would (sometimes) be doing a decent enough speed to overtake on a straight if it was clear, or slow down if it wasn't. It still took bloody ages though :(

99 times out of a hundred they are most likely elderly too.

Every driver I have seen doing this is a man in their thirties or forties (I've overtaken enough to catch glimpses of their faces). Elderly people drive slowly, but they always drive below the limit, so don't speed up (or stay the same) for 30/40 limits.

There's a lot of people around here that do 40 in a 60 and then carry on doing 40 into a 30 zone... Really winds me up as there are loads of roads like that around here.

This winds me up no end.

NSL road, with no houses on it, no pedestrian paths etc and people go along it at 40mph. Then you get to a village with loads of houses, shops, pedestrian crossings etc and people still carry on doing 40mph

Makes me want to give them a massive slap round the face.

Also on my way to work , people fly down a 50mph dual carriageway at 60mph or more even thought it is 50mph for a good reason (lots of adjoining roads, turn offs, blind crests and turns etc). Then it changes to a NSL dual carriageway where the road has NO junctions/adjoining roads, it is long clear with a massive viewing distance ahead (hence why it is NSL) and people just carry on doing 60mph  So in this NSL part I then end up overtaking all the people that flew past me a few minutes ago in the 50mph bit.
