RMT to ballot for strike action.

Up the ante, get self driving trains and sack them all, I appreciate there are disputes between employer/employee but striking is just a way of blackmailing people. Sack them I'm sure plenty others would do what they do for the insane money they get for a relatively simple task.

*******.

It does seem that these unions in particular go for the nuclear option of a strike almost as their default position. It's crazy because what little public support and sympathy they have (had?) is evaporating every single time they do this.

It's true. Talking of Waterloo to Liverpool St, I was meeting friends at Bank for lunch a few weeks ago, and I was guilty of being surprised when they said they just walked from Waterloo :o

Any updates on the strike yet? I can't see anything concrete...

Anything in zone 1 is basically walkable from anywhere else in zone 1.

I on the other hand live in zone 6... :(

2 1/2 hours and half a dozen buses on Thursday potentially as TFL seem to have decided the train that goes past my house will not stop at stations in London, there goes my tube alternative. :D

aha ;) gotta love cycling, will probably take a different route on thursday - to skip the busiest roads! I can imagine traffic jams going to be BAD.

Yep, it's going to be absolute bedlam. It was bad enough the last couple of times, and that's when there were at least some services running.

Roads will be gridlocked, buses overcrowded, huge lines for cabs. If it's at all possible, walk.

My journey is only from Vauxhall to Euston but it's still a good 4 miles, with luggage and through busy streets it's a PITA.

I've got 12 miles to cycle from croydon to paddington.. through streatham, brixton, vauxhall, hyde park.. ! that will super painful but I'll leave 10 minutes early and I should be there in time I think.

:o

Turns out I've got Thursday booked off anyway, but I think I'd likely just walk Kings Cross to Southwark. Possibly hop on a southbound bus around Farringdon/Fleet Street if they looked less busy by that point.

Or work from home.

So where do we claim for the lack of transport for those of us with season tickets?

TFL:

Do I get a refund on my Oyster/travelcard if my Tube's not running?
The short answer is no.

TfL make all sorts of provisions for refunds but those sought for delayed or cancelled journeys won't be given where a delay is beyond its control, which includes strike action.

This means you can't claim a refund for journeys where service changes have been advertised in advance, or because of security alerts, power outages, or bad weather.Beach

Haven't they just had a huge inflation smashing pay increase to put them over 50k and this is about the prospect of a 24hr tube network like most modern cities should have? Ridiculous.
Probably shooting themselves in the foot and just gives TFL all the ammo it needs to move to a driverless system when they can show the government how much will be saved in terms of money and hassle.

I had to get to zone 6 today on personal errand. Now I need to take about 5 buses and 2 hours to get back home.

What a load of rubbish. For the ticket price they charging and the level of services they offer, can't believe they are actually cheeky enough to go on a strike.

I can't be bothered to cycle 18 miles each way through London, or else I would have been doing it by now. :p

It's also quicker (by a fair amount) to get the tube.

Probably a stupid question but will I struggle to get an Addison Lee booked for tomorrow afternoon (lunchtime ish), to come from Central out to Ealing? And vice versa for Thursday morning? I've never attempted to get a cab before in a strike so I've absolutely no idea what to expect from them... :(

If anyone has any pointers on how long it would take to get into Central for 10:30am that would be much appreciated :(

Another painful day on public transport in London my lady takes the train to work and this is going to be a nightmare day tomorrow.

I do 12 miles each way, easy, quicker than a train, no smelly people, no queues and no bs! I could do 18 if I really wanted to ha. And I would but I don't live that far

Same. I think they are going to strike themselves out of a job before too much longer.

I agree, it's like they're pushing for automation lol, the sooner it happens the better!

Well, you say that but aren't some of the lines 'automated' anyway? Or at least able to be? I thought the Jubilee and Victoria were at least. All that will happen is the 'drivers' will have to do less, yet still go on strike to add to their £50k/yr salaries.. I don't see how they can get rid of them without a hideously massive payoff for everyone.

I've been on the TFL site for about half an hour now trying to figure out if I can take a river boat from Greenwich down to Waterloo. Going to be needing it probably around 9/10pm.

From what I'm seeing I believe this to be possible. Any one with a bit more knowledge confirm?
