RMT to ballot for strike action.

It's funny how mis informed some people are. It's not just drivers striking, its everyone including station staff, staff in the central LU control centre etc. And it's not simply about wanting a pay increase.

How many people on here would accept a change to the contract they signed when they started, which stated working nights only on special occassions (stuff like New Years Eve, Queens Jubilee), to now say can work as many nights on the weekend as required?

Are we all supposed to just roll over and say "yes master"? Striking is the only way we can fight.

now hey that sounds reasonable, but you strike for EVERYTHING, even the smallest things to a point where now your strikes are seen as pee take.

I agree why are we all in a race to the bottom, just because someone has the guts and the ability to stand up rather than have to put their hand up to have a wee, why is that bad?

All power to the RMT.

It's a pity for the commuters of London that TfL are being so unreasonable in their negotiating position.

I've been on the TFL site for about half an hour now trying to figure out if I can take a river boat from Greenwich down to Waterloo. Going to be needing it probably around 9/10pm.

From what I'm seeing I believe this to be possible. Any one with a bit more knowledge confirm?

Yup, will probably be using it myself. Can go to Greenwich or the o2 but takes about an hour with the speed restrictions around bridges. They have a bar onboard and normally plenty of room so much nicer way to travel!

No, if I'm not happy with my company I'll leave and fine somewhere else where I am happier.

This is the kind of **** that the RMT are known for, I for one cannot wait for driverless trains everywhere.
The drivers can be retrained and work on the platforms and stations, with minimal job losses.

That'll be an excellent day

there will no driveless trains, afaik didn't they do dlr's without drivers? or was it something else here in london...

basically, passengers "freaked out" and needed someone sitting there all day pretending to "drive" for them to be "calm"

Nah, DLR is driverless. They have a guard on board who's probably trained to drive them when needed but their main job appears to be signalling the all clear to close the doors and go.

The DLR is definitely driverless. You can sit in the front carriage right up against the windscreen. My kids love that.

Yes bring on driverless trains across the network.

How many nights will you/they have to work?

There's no one figure answer to that question right now. They only released a few draft rotas, and whatever way you look at it, have a worse work-life balance.

They announced the 24 hour tube in September 2014. It wasn't until February 2015 AFAIK that they decided to meet the unions to discuss in what ways it would affect the workers that are going to make it possible.

The problem is you strike all the time.

I agree that some previous strikes were a bit over the top, but this time it's all 4 unions, not just RMT. This time it is justified.

If you don't like it then leave

And do you get paid more for nightshifts? If the answer is yes then what is the problem.
