I just think at times AMD needs to hire some more competent marketing people and I mean in terms of strategy. The Fury X launch could just have been done better IMHO. If they had delayed it until stock was actually available, did another month or so driver optimisations and made sure that examples with the pump whine did not enter retail the overall impression of the company would have been better.
It's not the first time they have launched decent products but have bunged up on details all for the sake of maybe a month or so.
Let's hope they do a better job of the Fury launch!![]()
Agreed. I mean just look at hawaii still. When the 970 came out everyone was absolutely sure that hawaii was dead as the 970 was better in every way with a pretty decent performance gap above hawaii with a very aggressive price point.
Now look at the benchmarks of hawaii/390/390X. Neck and neck with, and beating the 970 in a lot of games. You even find people on this forum recommending the 390 over a 970 even now that they are almost exactly the same price!
Yet every ignorant person seems to think all AMD cards are slower than NVIDIA cards, run hotter and use more power, just because the stock cooler on hawaii cards was completely terrible, while the 780Ti ran much cooler and had a decent performance gap. (Where the power rumour came from I do not know... 780Ti used like 25W less than a 290X)
Again compare it to a 780Ti now... 390(not X) is neck and neck, even beating it often just like the 970.... Absolutely insane given that even an aftermarket cooled 290X wasnt even close at 780Ti launch...
I like AMD as a company, but they are so good at screwing up potentially great products and launches, which then really have a MASSIVE effect on them for even years in the future. They need to time things better I think.
No one reviews a product 4 months down the line when everything is fixed and the product is just enough better that it makes it looks 5x better in the review, and people read reviews, then buy products. AMD suffers from that so much, they need to have better launches.
