In light of the issues with the Samsung M3 portable 1tb drive in this thread, what are you recommendations for a reliable drive?

I would be looking to a WD drive personally or a LaCie Rugged Mini USB 3.0/ USB 2.0 1TB Hard Disk Drive?

what about a usb hdd dock and a regular hdd?

seems to be a lot of failures with those all in one enclosures

Unfortunately requirements are for a portable drive :( I know there have been some failures but my WD Passport has been solid for a long time!

this time buy two and then use 1 as a backup, if 1 then fails it doesn't matter as you have another with the data on :)

I had a WD passport which was great little drive but then started getting errors after a few years and slow downs. still got it as may try it outside the enclosure to see if the errors go away

I only use passports for externals, my 500gb has lasted a few years with no issues, my 2TB one I've had 7 months and so far no issues.

Also where I used to work, they had 2x 500gb passports for a server backup, each day one would be taken home by a member of staff and were probably treated badly. When I left they were still working with no issues after around 3 years.
