*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

Thorn is still going to be an issue in PvP, most of the maps are relativity close quarters so the range nerf is not going to hurt it that much. Reading reddit, it seems in the right hands its still going to be a just as leathal.

Good, it should still be an issue. It's an exotic hand cannon. When you find someone using it against you, it should make you think "hey, we've got a bad mother over here, better do something about this". It needs a higher lethality than legendary hand cannons. What it shouldn't have is the ability to out range a scout rifle.

They already nerfed xur by looks of it.....no weapon?
probably would have been carp anyway, but the odd new player saving there coins to buy a first exotic weapon won't be happy:)

You're not going to be able to land headshots reliably at long range with HCs with the accuracy nerf, and the damage will fall off much more. Thorn DoT nerfed as well....much more reasonable, still a potent weapon at close/medium range, but going to get spanked at longer range by scouts/pulse/snipers.

The DoT stack won't matter much in PvP, if you're landing shots the damage from the DoT is inconsequential compared to the round damage.

Exactly

Hand Cannons now zoom in less when ADS, have the damage drop off sooner over range, and are less accurate. DOT is less too.

The key issue for thorn is at what range the drop off means Thorn becomes a 3 bullet kill instead of 2 bullets.

Kinda confused about this one myself, and the ice breaker one.

Annoying Gjallahorn is getting neutered, we wouldn't all have to use it if everything in the game wasn't such a massive bullet sponge and one level above us.

Would've liked to see a slight damage increase to heavy machine guns against AI.

It is some much needed balancing and mostly sounds good but the real test will be in the playing of it. Hopefully they have got the balancing right this time so that one weapon wont become dominant again.

Gjallahorn/BH/IB nerfs are annoying. Yes they were OP compared to other weapons but they were used due to bosses being such bullet sponges. So all these nerfs mean is boss fights will be longer but not harder. Why not, rather than nerf these, buff everything else - boss fights remain as they are now and keeps us happy and you also get balance across weapons.

We joked last night in CE that no land beyond you may as well beat people to death with the gun - I think we may have to start pistol whipping with other weapons too.

Yes actually attempting to build challenging bosses (and content in general) seems too much like hard work.. Instead they just nerf the most over-used guns without really understanding why they are over-used (because the end game content design is simply "Throw enemies with more health at you").

Blackhammer is only OP on the Walkers because the Walker itself is so, well, stupid. Make the boss an actual challenge instead of a bullet sponge and you would see a change in the way everyone approaches it (this is the same for basically every boss in the game bar perhaps the Archon Priest. He is still a bullet sponge but at least he moves). With HoW they made the situation even worse with boss like enemies that barely move at all (Killing the Pilot Servitor is mind numbingly dull).

I am still totally confused by the blanket HC nerf. I can't remember the last time I was killed by a legendary HC in PVP (possibly a couple of times by Ill Will?!). Perhaps they needed a small range reduction but everything else seems completely over the top and is nothing more than a knee jerk to the HC usage stats (Which will have been made up predominately of Thorn, TLW and Hawkmoon).

Don't understand why they nerfed icebreaker.

There is only 1 time I ever use it and it's on oracles.

They have nerfed shotguns too so I think party crasher has become the clear leader. You want that faster rate of fire in case the first one doesn't kill.

In fact they just nerfed everything apart from hard light and scout rifles.

Why haven't they fixed the Vex? Yet they fix nechro.

Agreed, it will hopefully shift the PvP meta, but we will have to see.

Same with Gally, we don't know how much they have reduced the damage by and it's still going to be the go to PvE launcher. Black Hammer is a mega nerf though, they could have made it so it only takes 1 bullet from your inventory per every 3 hits etc. Now you may as well roll Efrideet's for Field Scout and Final Round/Clown Cartridge/Performance Bonus etc

Final Round nerf is welcome, especially for Too. Although I think a lot of people will realise that a lot of the time they were just getting headshotted anyway.

To be fair, they have reduced the sponginess of the worst bosses, it's not like they are oblivious to the way the game is played.

Exotic primaries will always dominate crucible as it's the only weapon you reliably have ammo for. With this patch we should see all the exotic primaries being much better balanced, Hard Light, Suros, Monte Carlo, Red Death, Bad Juju, Mida should all be viable, which is a win in my book.

The main general gameplay issue I have with PvE content is the number of situations where mobs can one-shot you...partly a result of under-levelling (boo), partly modifiers (at least they removed burns on Skolas). Nothing in VoG can one hit squish you, so you always have the option of reacting to a bad knock from a hobgob, go and hide somewhere, taking your DPS out for a few seconds. I do really wish they would nerf dreg grenade throws mind.

Crota HM is not a bad fight now, you still need to pay attention, have the right gear, and a good strategy, only problem is it's boring for 5 out of the 6 players.

That would make sense if it was rare, but a huge amount of people have Thorn, so much so that it is the most popular weapon in PVP right now.

By a long way.

I use Hawkmoon so it'll be interesting to see the difference to that. Hopefully the AR will become a more viable option, too.

It is right now. It will lose popularity if this patch achieves what it intends, but my point was that it should remain a weapon to be feared.

Or...let's balance all the weapons that are over-used because...they aren't balanced

Or more accurately:

Let's blanket "balance" an entire class of weapon because 1 or two weapons of this class are over-used.

Now I just have to remember if this has been done in the past.... hmmmm..... oh wait hang on.... :o

Honestly we will just have to wait and see what the end result is (cries of nerf pulse rifles most likely) but overall some of the changes have left me

or lets "balance " all the goods weapons so people have to buy TTK to get the good guns that are in that dlc.

this weapon patch was the final nail in the coffin for me now, just glad it came out before the next dlc guess it saves me a few bob

Glad you have seen the light bud. I stopped about 6 weeks ago, and am really not that bothered about going back.

So now we are forced to use weapons that we don't like? I can understand balancing in PvP but leave PvE alone. I think they should spend time actually creating some good content and boss fights instead but they don't want to do that do they?

What's the point in the Final Round perk getting bonus precision damage? They changed it because it was OP in being able to one-shot in Crucible (specifically ToO, really). So now it is really a nullified perk to have because if you get the headshot, you get the kill regardless of whether it has bonus precision damage or not...
