emails you get from people at work.

I got one from the HR manager at head office that had "my beaver" as the subject and the body read "would you like to see my beaver ;) "
With a picture attached.
it was of a pair of beaver branded work boots.

However the emails that followed did actually lead to me seeing her actual beaver multiple times in person, so not everything is nonsense.
 
I had a good email yesterday, actually. I told someone that I'd try and remember to pass on a document when I received it. She said,

"I know... it must be a nightmare...do you use a diary on the system...it's a great tool...LOL

But if you don't send it...I will try and remind you by phoning you... it IS a wee while away....so you are excused... LOL"

Just wtf...I didn't reply. I don't even know this woman.

He also uses the term 'sense check' by which he means proofread or check his work for him... which makes me want to punch him in the face.

Is skidder your boss? I always thought a sense check was a good idea, it's so easy to overlook things.

I worked for a firm a few years ago as a maintenance engineer and one of our sites was very high profile, it was the flagship of that contract which alone was the flagship of the London portfolio and worth a good £3m a year. This building contained all the client's head honchos, decision makers, and purse string holders.

The last engineer there made a mess of things, to such an extent I almost thought it was deliberate, like getting 12h and 24h time clocks mixed up so the plant didn't turn on in the morning but rather at night, connecting the Building Management System to the chillers instead of the boilers, just stupid things, and LOTS of them. Then one day I caught wind that he was kicked off site, because one of the MDs of the client caught him sleeping in a plant room or something, so I was asked to go there and save face / clean up the mess.

Fast forward two weeks and everything's on rails. I'm doing 14 hour days, fixing up all the things that went wrong, building up the company's reputation and building relations to a healthy level again.

Then the fire alarm goes off. Now when this happens, it causes loads of plant to trip and sequences of events are put in place. Smoke vents open, smoke dampers shut, air handling units shut down, all automatic doors open, lifts ground, etc etc. Basically the building turns into an incfedibly poorly ventilated brick with loads of escape routes and anything which could add oxygen to a fire is turned off. Except none of this happened. The previous chap had turned off the plant exclusion and left it off. This is a key-switch which prevents anything from happening so you can test the fire alarm without having the place go into meltdown mode.

I was dragged in to the office and told I was the only person that the client trusted at this point so I had to write up an incident report detailing what had happened and why.

I did this and sent it off. My surname is a bit odd. So I write this massive email apologising profusely and explaining why it happened and why it was never going to happen again.

I always thought a sense check was a good idea, it's so easy to overlook things.

I'm not against checking his work for him... it's the term 'Sense check' which I find annoying... there are enough terms for what he means already such as... review, proofread, audit, check, examine, etc. The phrase 'Sense check' is pure management speak and just annoys me for some reason :p
 
I often get emails saying:

"xxxx system isn't working properly, can you fix it."

Want to expand on that slightly or should I get my crystal ball out?

Had someone in the finance department email everyone in the company (including contractors) with how to find their username, and the generic password that had been set for the new finance system. 4 times.

What a genius :rolleyes: :p

on a non work front..

someone sent an email to the whole company litterally just saying:

"my car is for sale, would anyone be interested in buying it"

no details about what it is or anything. she must have had a lot of grief back because 5 mins later she sent out another:

"no it is not free"

The worst thing is, for some reason the IT manager here will not talk to us over the desks and will email us!

It's got the point where we were ignoring emails so the manager had to ask us etc. Seems ridiculous to email someone 3 ft away, granted if its official business then yeah email us but just shout over that there is one on its way. Far too weird a setup, its as if talking is frowned upon in this place.
 
I got a disciplinary in my first ever job, a verbal warning. Absolute BS due to my spelling.

Basically, I had to update IT tickets with relevant information. They were demonstrating a clients tickets to them, how efficient etc etc. And they spotted I had made a couple of spelling mistakes (can't remember what). They complained after finding out there was a 15 year old doing the job. Saying it was unprofessional and that to have mistakes was a lack of professionalism on the companies part.

As a response, the company gave me a verbal warning and I learnt to double check my spelling ever since.

I left shortly after that, if my old boss from 12 years ago is reading this. You're a ****, you knew damn well I could have EASILY dobbed you in for the weed you smoked in the company car, on company time, and offered to me, a minor at the time. Yet I covered your back. Wish I could go back in time and visit me a week before and explain staying quite in that situation was the wrong thing.

wow that's pretty bad behaviour in the workplace. You should spell things correctly next time!

It's too important to have things in writing these days, so even if they are close, I will email.
