how do you get your music?

Just upgraded to Spotify Premium. After the purchase of a Bose Soundtouch it only works with premium but I like the better quality sound ad also no adverts. Plus can play through Surround sound in lounge from TV.

Previously I would illegally download, however for the sake of £10 a month for Spotify it isn't worth the hassle or time it takes! Spotify 1, Piracy 0!

I buy cd's, usually second hand for a few pence off amazon. just bought a load today actually.

I then rip them to my server as FLAC using dbpoweramp with acurate rip (similar to exact audio copy but better - repairs bad frames by using other people's accurate rips) Google play music reads the folder that they are stored in and I listen to my music through that at work (using radiant player on OSX as a ui for it)

my networked amps at home read the music on the server and stream the flacs through my hi-fi, or through winamp on PC.

I wouldn't buy MP3s, and I wouldn't buy individual songs. I would buy FLAC or WAV if it was availible though; but sadly isn't except from places like bowers and wilkins, linn tc. it's usually much cheaper and better to buy the CD and rip it!

Spotify mainly. Youtube too for the more unusual music that isn't available on Spotify.

Do you have a system though that when listening to say Spotify Premium vs FLAC you could clearly tell the difference?

In my opinion Spotify Premium is great value for money. Music instantly available at a touch of a button. How long do you need to wait for the music to be available on your system?

Not having a go in any shape or form, just that if the technology is there it should be embraced. In my opinion CD's are dead.

I was paying for Spotify Premium with Student Discount, until my account got hacked (easy password so my fault). I notified Spotify, changed my password etc. They then cancelled my subscription for me. Thanks Spotify!

The one thing that does annoy me is if I do buy a CD from the rain forest place and they offer autorip. You buy an album with the main tracks plus some bonus tracks, the autorip version comes without these.

However if you search for the MP3 version, there is one with the bonus tracks! I mainly listen to metal so Spotify is good for that so I am tempted to stop with the CD's/MP3's and just Spotify mainly.

Not even sure why I buy CD's any more, I tend to buy them, rip them and store them xD (Although technically ripping these is now illegal again in the UK - shhhhhh don't tell anyone)

just my opinion but paying for premium just to not have a advert every few songs is wasting money.

I find it annoying especially when listening to certain albums then an advert for mcdonalds or something comes on, it breaks the whole flow of the album.

I use Google Music along with Youtube.

Deezer for streaming or Amazon for MP3s. Got admit that most of the MP3s are on Deezer now, especially with their music upload function so it's always in my library.

Tried Spotify and just didn't float my boat and hardly had any of the music that I wanted. May give it another shot at some point though

Original piracy :D

We all did it in the 80's though, you got it down to a fine art to miss the DJ/Host talking :P

But these days I will buy the CD's (mainly from a rain forest place) with the AutoRip or I use Spotify to check out albums I am unsure on.

Oh that brings back memories - mine from late 70's - Sunday night taping Alexis Korner on reel to reel Akai then moving to cassettes.

Dave:)

Youtube or Soundcloud. I don't really listen to much music unless it's in my car. In which case I just my Metallica CDs :D

Google Music unlimited. I got the early adopter discount, think I pay £7.99 a month

I have quite a few CDs stored at my parents house from before MP3s came about, that I still use in my car. Other than that I have a large MP3 library on my PC and on my iPod, (most of which is from my CDs), althoug I don't really use it much. I use Youtube a lot too, making playlists.
