Holidays??

Try leaving the house, there's some cool stuff out there.

Time off work is the greatest part of my life. Going away and seeing new things, experience new cultures, and just generally being away from my usual routine makes life worth living.

Anyway, was more of a rant to myself than anything but i cant be the only one who does this when you have too much time on their hands :D
If I have that much free time, I'm too busy playing games on it to worry about upgrading... in fact, I've usually taken days off specifically to play.
Mods and upgrades are what I think about during boring times at work and in the days just before payday. I can't afford to just upgrade on a whim.

Buy a VR headset as your next upgrade and fire up Farcry3. Strip down to your shorts turn on all the heating in the house and lie on a beach towel.

Win win situation...

I also hate taking time off work. I just can't sit in the house on my own for more than 20 minutes without climbing the walls. I generally don't go out as I'm too tight to spend any money, which is also the reason I don't go away on holidays either. So all that's left to do is just go to work. They keep having to force me to take time off in December time as I never use any holidays in the year.

If you guys are having 2 weeks off and getting bored, then how about doing stuff outside of the house?

I always book the first half of October off as it's just after payday. The Nottingham Goose fair is on, so I'm there for 2 days. I do theme parks during that time too, because kids are back in school which means shorter queues and the weather is still mild. Then of course, it doesn't hurt to have 1 or 2 chill out days at the end.

I work in IT, I still have a gaming PC and consoles at home but only occasionally use them - the LAST thing I want to be doing when I get home from work or have time off is arse around with computers. I'd rather be in the pub or a different country (in a pub in another country)

Yep, spend all day working behind a computer so the last thing I want to do is touch the bloody thing. Hence I now use an Imac that just does work when i need it to..

Overclocking and tuning memory settings was fun when I was 18. Now I just need a good maintenance contract so if something goes wrong I get an instant fix.

beer is better than computers!

I'm not sure how people find it hard to do both. Also, if you take many pictures, at least these memories can be shared with others. Can't do that with your mind.

It's not about taking no picture, but I've found on trips. Plenty of people will literally be glued to there camera and miss plenty. All for the sake of thousands of photos often all very same.

As for the op, get on http://www.exodus.co.uk/ or similar, pick something and experience life.

Well put - you don't realise what life is all about until you get out and see the world a bit. I've been on trips that I don't have thousands of photos of but still make me smile today - genuine life experiences that have made me a better person. If I had spent the money on graphics cards and CPUs at the time I did those I'd probably have a 6800GT and an Athlon 64 to show for it now.

Would love a holiday if I had friends who didnt have kids, got boring in life

Anyway

I want to go away on a long weekend on my own or with someone, ,I need some downtime and I mean now

You don't need friends ro go with, one of the group "adventure" holidays is perfect for such people. You quickly get to now each other and become a group. I wish I start doing such things earlier in life.

Got back from walking west highland way in Scotland the other week, and even on that spent most evenings with other people chatting, if there was somewhere midges couldn't get us.

Yep, up until 6 months ago I was single and all my friends were having kids and getting married.... It happens. I've been Extremely fortunate to get to go to all sorts of places for work so taking a few days off at the end of working is easy. I wouldn't want to be away on my own for more than a couple of days and doing it with work means I could do that in places far enough away to not be worthwhile normally. (Weekend in New York, 2 days in Singapore etc). That said, there are plenty of places in the world that are worth going to for a few days. Hell, I'd bet there are awesome places in the UK that OP hasn't experienced yet

Blimey you sound a barrel of laughs:eek:

Life is not only about work, before you know it you will be an old man.

Can't think of anything worse than being off work and just sitting at home on the PC...

Every holiday I have I always try to travel somewhere. There are so many places in this world to visit. Last count I have been to 28 countries, so many more to go to, not enough years left!

Ha ha, all i said is that around time off work i look at my PC and wonder what i can do to it.

Not sit there for hours and hours, contemplating what to spend my last penny on.

Wish i never bothered. Peace ffs.

My problem is that I don't really game any more and have stopped my video encoding.

My system is more than enough for the web browsing and occasional gaming that I do but I'm forever looking at what upgrade to buy next!
