**** Sony Xperia Z3 ****

I'm happy if they just continue as is, putting out a nice flagship once a year (Z3+ can be forgotten lol), with highly stable and smooth updates with a slick close to stock UI. I think the bigger they get the more bloated and buggy (with old models mostly forgotten in update rollouts) things "could" get, just look at a few other makers as proof of this.

That's pure tech blog speculation though. The CEO himself has said he has no plans to exit the mobile market. The parent company had plenty of time to pull out over the years as sales have never really been stellar, but the devices are sound and Sony commit a lot to the dev community which helps the whole platform anyway.

I don't see them going anywhere. "deaths spiral" = Clickbait wording.

I didn't mean literally that article. And they aren't just losing pennies are they. It is literally the PS4 and maybe their camera module division keeping them afloat.

Ofcourse they are gonna say 'They won't be going anywhere'. But when the time comes, they might not have a choice.

The issue is, how are they suddenly going to become a huge smartphone manufacturer overnight.

Who said overnight?

They need have a freaking game plan for a start. Build upon your success instead of releasing half arsed updates. And streamline their lineup ffs.
EDIT - They should have done this ages ago. Now with competition so fierce, they might not even have a chance.

It's their own fault. They were a big fat company and now they have become the outsiders because they were too bloated to move quickly with the market.

It's only Samsung that have gone from strength to strength. Before the Android mobile market, they were literally nobodies. They persevered ,and they are winning. Only just recently they are running out of ideas. But look at the success and fortunes they've made because the competition was so sucky.

So it has! Creating ftf now and flashing, let's see if the gap next to the battery is fixed at regional localised level :p

Apart from the Generic Europe official release for sim free handsets, the following UK networks have released it too:

3
Virgin Mobile

And as of tonight, the generic UK release for sim free handsets. You should see the OTA soon as it's staggered. Otherwise simply manually update using Flashtool and Xperifirm.

Edit*
Hmm the ftf for the UK is bigger than Europe, not a small difference either... Almost 100MB of difference.

hows it looking mate?

Samsung aren't doing so well mate.

Are you kidding me, they've got $$$ in the bank and are still making mega $$$. Just not as much as they used to.

They have power and resources to switch up their game plan as and when they like, because they did their legwork in the beginning.

The market is a lot tougher now as you know, but they are still in the best position compared to all other Android OEM's.

Sony just has too many flagship, where rumoured to get a Z5 with basically Z3 specs. Samsung at least has a decent product cycle. HTC just seems like a lost cause, I have no trust in them making good choices. Who thought the a finger print scanner that does nothing else was a good idea.

Which has a better chance do you reckon: HTC or Sony?

They both look so bleak. And yet they both have big potential. It literally is 50/50 IMO. I don't how they are gonna last long if they keep releasing weak products with poor marketing.

And what about LG in all of this. Their G4 didn't go down so well in terms of sales. Qualcomm's ****up this year certainly didn't help.

Sony is a profitable company, if they get their act together they can make amazing Android hardware. They have their own camera business so they can get the best parts there, make some really well balanced hardware in generally. I think HTC is the worse of the 2, there a few mistakes away from disappearing.

HTC can make sexy hardware though. They need a good camera and batterylife to back it up. And they have a good thing going with boomsound.

Their next release should be telling if they have learnt their lessons. I don't know how they have any money left.

I do like the M9, but the M9 plus is so ugly, and its the latest kit. The Z3 I feel is more balanced cause it has great battery life, its slim, looks good, solid build.

They are charging flagship money for the Zx so they can't just keep pedaling the Z as is.

Next iterations need a S6 grade camera (they should be able to do this ffs), fingerprint sensor and give it mega batterylife so people can sit up and take note. Sell a few more colours and finishes to differentiate.

I'm not feeling the angular design but thats just me.

I'm giving HTC the benefit of the doubt till I see their next M line.

Yeah, Sony makes the camera modules for most others, they should have the best camera. Not sure how you can sell Samsung camera modules, and they turn around and write better software then you for it, someone should get fired for that lol.

HTC, I guess we can see their next flagship, but they don't seem to learn, UltraPixel was cool, it just needed some work, they scrap it and get a **** 20mp camera and go completely the opposite way.

I have no confidence in HTC phones. There was a time when they were great but the past few years they had plenty of time to brush up but have not. Crap cameras, crap battery and crap overall support. Though all in a pretty package...

The Z3 is the only Sony phone I've been interested in since I had the J5 back in the day. The Z2 is too chunky for my liking else I'd have gone with that sooner. There was a time that it felt like nothing could match the performance of the Note 3 running a custom ROM and kernel, but with mobile banking being used more and workarounds no longer working, root is not an option I look for any more so had to look elsewhere as Samsung just doesn't work for me without rooting.

LG phones are too stuttery, Motorola too low spec to compete, Samsung ditched the SD card slot and cost iPhone money these days plus the added bloat and all the other makers have their pros and cons too.

If the rumoured Z5 specs from the other day are true then I'll stick with the Z3 another year and see where Project Ara is then, as I don't think any other maker currently has or will have a phone that ticks more pro boxes than slash through cons.

hows it looking mate?

Same as Europe release, the extra near 100MB is an unknown lol. All works smoothly and expectedly.

What they are doing is hemorrhaging £££'s.

Then they go and release a half baked successor to the Z3.

It's not rocket science. Add OIS and full manual, bigger battery, fingerprint sensor and refresh the design a little. And make another compact. And sell it at £450/£350.

And Market the thing FFS. Do they not know business?

Exactly their failings are their own.
