never owned a SSD until yesterday, is squealing normal under load.

if i do a big write to disk over 3gb it lets of a high pick squeal, the king you get on some graphics card when sitting at the games menu doing 1000FPS.

it's a samsung 850 EVO

latest mb bios? try moving sata cables up and away from psu or gpu

what make model mb/psu/gpu are you using

yeah latest bios, gtx 750ti, evga supernova 1000w P2(basically a superflower with 10 year warranty) using my OEM dell motherboard at the minute as 1155 mobo's are like rocking horse poo poo

it's 100% coming from the SSD

It could be emi leakage, either from PSU,GPU or mb,most likely mb if its a budget board

I've never experienced it myself tho with an ssd, would be good to test it in another machine if you can

well everything was fine up until yesterday until i installed the SSD

so it's definitely something to do with that

Yh,it shouldn't hurt anything just annoying

I don't think its the ssd itself, just emi leakage from another component that's causing the noise in the ssd

yeah it might,i had a case with a front panel audio cable that would cause it,till I moved it away from gpu,so its worth a try with the sata cable

The only time I can sometimes hear an SSD 'squealing' when working is if I have my ear right up to drive while it's out the case.

Try putting your ear right next to the drive and see what you can hear. With these sorts of noises, it might be a case of trial and error by finding the noise with your ears until you find the culprit.

Well had a listen turns out it's coming from a chip on the motherbaord. Had a shuffle round of the cables and made no difference. It also turns out despite me thinking my motherboard was only SATA 2 dell decided to stick a revised board out there with a SATA3 port. Hello 550Mb read and writes with 80,000 IOPS :D

Despite the squeal i'm genuinely impressed(it's my first SSD)
