Say NO to windows 10 because of this ...

I do think it's scary just how accepting and trusting this present generation are of authority and the way one's information is constantly harvested.

I don't even provide my mobile number to people unless I consider they have a very good reason for wanting it. Where possible I provide as little information as possible.

I don't provide my mobile number either but that's different. As someone else pointed out it's now part of doing something we enjoy. I'd put my trust in a large company like MS over a little one any day, or even the government (wouldn't trust those civil servants with anything :) ). They (MS and others) have a lot of lose if they get it all wrong. I don't believe anything about me or most people is interesting enough for them actually delve into it and associate the information with me at a personal level - other than for marketing. If marketing is more directed at my needs I don't care.

This. The default privacy settings are a little alarming. Never use express setup/configuration.

Because the upcoming generations are all about selfies and look at me and i want everyone knowing what I am doing

Marketing is usually not directed at needs. But wants, consumerism etc. I think your faith in big companies is a little misplaced.

But none of that is the issue. Its being aware of what all these settings in Windows 10 do. Most of the data you are sharing is within the one data silo within one company.

There are quite a few tweaks and hacks you need to do to disable all the spying stuff :/

Read here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3f38ed/guide_how_to_disable_data_logging_in_w10/

Microsoft will pretty much know every file you open, website you visit and program you run unless you turn all this crap off. If you have a microsoft profile they will also have your personal details to match it to.

It's a good idea to remove all the default store apps as well, like onenote, xbox sync, etc because they all write to log files for MS. Make sure you remove onedrive. You have to do these things using powershell. Disable the advertising ID in group policy too.

Lol the tin foil hat wearing head slappers all over the net are amusing me.
lol, What?
"Tin foil hatters" believe in, and are scared of mind programming experiments by governments.
How the hell do you compare them to the Windows 10 privacy issues? Which are real.

Personally I don't care. Yeah so they're probably spying on me, but I've nothing to hide. I'm not a criminal and well if they want to taylor ads to me based on searches etc, well I'll find more ways to block them etc.

theres nothing new about this. they just basically collecting information to do with their services.

also the privacy settings can be turned off...

Never know, some day they make illegal downloads a massive fine and then use the data they've harvested from microsoft to bankrupt half of the nation?

It doesn't matter. Our data is already out there, being used and traded without our knowledge. Fact. Any attempts to stop it from happening are futile.
