EU pays jobless migrants to come to Britain

why if they were refused ? Shouldn't they get a ticket back to wherever they came from

Selective quoting of the website, although admittedly it's not clear.

If you’ve been refused asylum
You can ask for the following if you’re homeless, don’t have any money to buy food and you can show that there’s a reason why you can’t leave the UK yet:

short-term housing
help with prescriptions for medicine, dental care for your teeth, eyesight tests and glasses
a payment card for food and toiletries

so basically you can come to the uk collect your free glasses, free dental care worth thousands of pounds etc even if your not going to stay

sounds like madness no wonder so many people are at calais.

is the rest of europe supposed to be the same?

Come on guys stop sending thread off topic!

Its about the EU funding people to move around the EU.

If what is being reported is correct how could anyone say no to that. Even I would snap at a chance for that.
See the whole of Europe for nothing, sounds like a holiday to me. ;)

Not all 28 EU members fund in equal amounts.

Germany, France, UK and Italy pay the most in although Italy get a fair chunk back.

UK and Germany get very little back from the EU but pay a considerable amount in.

Also the EU budget has never been audited and signed off.

Am I convinced the EU is good for us, NO!

Sounds like a lot of places in the UK, not least liverpool - or stoke for that matter.

Cities like stoke and liverpool just take from the national purse, contribute virtually nothing except for the few good people who leave and make a valid contribution in london.

Of course londoners complain bitterly about this influx of northerners causing congestion and straining public services but what can they do? Because of this silly UK thing they've got the right to work in london.

I'm not sure the UK is a good thing for london.

most people would happily see London gain independence and stick a border around it
London is pretty much designed to act as a giant funnel sucking every ones disposable income into one place where all the big companies are

The EU is slightly different and hardly comparable

Some would, but not most. Most complain about it, complaining is fine so long as everyone realises it's just a good whinge and we're not really going to do anything silly.

Try telling that to Greece as they see their wealth and young go to richer EU states (not that anyone forced them to buy BMWs and Land Rovers).

The obvious end to this balkanisation of states that seems popular here is you and your family group perched on a hill top fort pushing pointy sticks at any strangers who approach.

So at what point do you want to stop rolling back millennia of civilisation and say this is the level of mixing with others you can tolerate?

EU wasn't the problem for greece.

people reporting their earnings as far lower than actual to avoid taxes was?

They should never been allowed in the EU with the euro as currency, they were already failing

Good to know you've got a handle on the situation. It could be tricky summing up the problems of a whole country into a couple of sound bites but not for you - bravo!

This I can attest to living in Liverpool, we getting all kinds of money from EU/Gov funds. Major funding for a new bridge, regeneration in a lot of areas etc.

Is it waste, I dunno but we don't feel the benefits living around 2.5miles from the city centre.

I would like to know where is this £3.5k coming from, as we are the second highest contributor to the EU. How much is this budget?

I just don't get how one minute they implement austerity across the EU, yet hand over (so to say) £3,500 to any tom, dick or harry. Crazy! :(

Its not for any tom, dick or harry though is it? You have to apply for it. You could have read that on the schemes website that I linked you to.

I'm guessing that liverpools bridge and regeneration probably cost more in the long run, but you just want to be angry about something and dont really know what.

Tbh I think you just need to cheer up a bit, not everyone is out to steal all your money!

Don't do anger that **** will kill you fast. ;)

My point is Greece is in a hell hole, they where only allowed 60 euros a day or something before they agreed austerity.
What am getting at with this is the EU should look after there own members first?

Now we have people not from the European continent calming up to according to the press £3,500 for travel, language and relocation expenses.

Its a very fragmented union with no clear goal except to stay together no matter what issues arise.

Crazy times that's for sure.

No, all the facts and figures in your original link were actually £3500 for EU nationals, theyve managed to get you thinking its Africans by putting the pictures in, which is what they wanted.

Yeah Greece is screwed, but it hasn't happened overnight. The union isnt really that fragmented, we just cant pump money into greece non-stop and make it work, theyve already had help a few times.

Think the 60 euros a day thing was only for cash machines to stop people clearing out accounts and crashing the economy further, not 100% on that as I was using a greek cash machine while it was all going on and took out 270 euros when all transactions were subject to it supposedly.

I'm not all pro EU but when I googled whether it was worth being in it or not those links came up and they seem to be pretty comprehensive.

I vote out if the link above is anything to go by.

Quote
"With small and medium-sized firms freed from EU regulation, there could be a jobs boom. More than 90% of the UK economy is not involved in trade with the EU, yet still bears the burden of these rules, says the Bruges Group. The Eurosceptic think tank claims pulling out of the EU but staying in the EEA would create 1 million British jobs."

"
Britain would gain full control of its own borders - and be able to control, or stop, the flow of migrants from the EU, which accounted for 27% of total net migration in 2010.

2.3 million citizens of other EU countries were living in the UK in 2011, says the ONS."

Now is that not how it should be?
