Disney cleaned shop of a lot of the prequel era stuff in the cull when they grabbed lucas... my feel is a lot of that stuff will come back when Disney have wrenched the fans of the originals back.

They don't care about the fans of the originals, those fans won't make disney the return they desire. It's people of my sons age they want. People my age are just a bonus, they don't need to win me over.

It's having all the merchandise lined up that they care about so little timmy can get his hands on all the characters this xmas. Disney know their market, you only have to look at Star Wars Rebels. Aladdin animation in space, the lego sets where ready before the show aired and season two commissioned before the second episode aired.

They don't give a monkeys about 40 year old men, other than saying all the right PR spin. You will watch them regardless.

4,5, and 6. I only include 6 since it wraps things up but its not that good compared with the other 2.
The prequels should be avoided unless you really need more.

My personal preference is to watch 1, skip 2 and 3, then watch 4-6 but since you've not seen them before the sensible option in my opinion is 1-6.

I hear you danny, hard not to disagree. I know how Disney work it, show kids inspired hero's, kids all wana be what they see.

Star wars is the perfect vehicle for that, just saying though... in what other world would you see fruitcake fisher back on the big screen. JJ might be a master of playing fan service, I just think Disney are atleast playing all round on the first film.. a 40 something come 10 year old means just as much. Rebels and the like will ultimately take them where they want to be, but awakens will be the platform for right now at the box office.

This.

But if you want to watch Episode I watch it after you have completed the rest of the movies. Don't fit it in between Episode V and Episode II.

Machete order works for so many reasons. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Having read the reasoning and thinking about it, he's actually right. 1 is a total trainwreck for start to finish and is mentioned rarely and even completely disregarded in 99% of the rest of the films. I think this would be the best order for someone who hasn't seen it.

But Episode I has such great lines that everyone quotes :

"This is podracing"

"His cells have the highest concentration of midi-chlorians I have seen in a life-form. It was possible he was concieved by the midi-chlorians."

"Fellow Senators, Honored delegates. A tragedy has engulfed our system which started right here with the taxation of Trade Routes."

Yup, Another vote for Machete order. I have watched them in that order and it works. I just wish I could wipe every film to watch it for the first time in that order.

Not sure I completely agree with you there. I think they know that all us fans from the first time around actually represents a massive market. Most of us now also have kids who we'll try our hardest to force...err...I mean encourage to get into SW. They're going out of their way (it seems to me) to get older fans back on board as a priority. If we're excited, we'll drag the kids along. If we're not interested....who will take the kids to see it? If they do it right (and it's looking good) they can appeal to 2 generations, both feeding off each other.

As for merchandising, well SW started it all really. As long as the toys are affordable (like they used to be when we were kids) it's fine with me. Be a nice change from Thomas the ******* Tank Engine! :) Again, I'm expecting toys that very much appeal to the dads, because if dad is interested then it's more money in the mouse's pocket.

I guess what I'm saying is that, YES, of course, Disney is a money-making leviathan, but that's good news for us in this case.

(please don't prove me wrong Disney  )

Machete is the only way for a newcomer these days

Release order or Chrono order both have flaws, Machete makes the most of the 5 films in it and ignores the waste of time Ep1

Revenge of the Sith (III)- is pretty decent. The opening is AWESOME.
Don't miss it.

I'll watch episode I on one condition. Edit out this character.

'nuff said. :p

The only versions of the originals I will watch are the HD versions shown by Sky around 10 or so years ago. They were in 1080p and completely original. Never were they released to DVD or Blu-Ray, but if you know where to look...

Because that's the order of the story . It's not difficult, is it? I understand your point above, but then it works the other way round (eg. you know what's going to happen to Anakin, broadly speaking).

Jesus. Wept. *cringes*
