Alex Salmond: A second Scottish referendum is inevitible

Why don't we hold a referendum to abolish Scotland completely, as well as England, Wales and Northern Ireland and just become the United Kingdom as a sole entity?

At one stroke it would put a stop to this nonsense of Scottish independence, which is at least partially fuelled by a completely misplaced sense of nationalism. Britain is the nation, not Scotland.

[This is a rhetorical question, I know that too many bone-headed nationalists in each nation would oppose it to ever happen]

Some of it would absolutely be lost, as we'd no longer have the institutions which bind us.

The SNP are not ethnic nationalists, they don't care whether you're Scottish or not as long as you're a citizen of Scotland. So the government will not be the manifestation of the Scottish nation at all. If you're okay with Pakistanis, Poles or Englishmen determining the Scottish peoples destiny as part of a civic Scotland, why do you care if they do the same as part of a civic Britain?

And as there is no distinct Scottish people (because the SNP are about CIVIC nationalist) then why should someone from Glasgow want to be ruled by someone from Aberdeen? It makes no sense whatsoever. What IS the difference between someone from Glasgow and London, if not their ethnicity?

The whole concept of nationalism advocated by the SNP is absurd. And again, the Unionists have failed to highlight this.

I seriously doubt Biohazard and lovelyhead are the same person unless the crushing defeat last September made him give up on his ability to construct semi-valid arguments in well written English.

1. Ethnicity =/= Race.

2. Acknowledging your ethnic identity =/= Racist

3. Most nations are based upon ethnic identity. The clue is in the national names.

4. But as I said, if it is not based on ethnicity, what is it based on? What does someone like in Stirling have in common with Dundee besides ethnicity? Why should someone in Dumfries feel they have more in common with someone from the Hebrides than someone from Carlisle?

I have read the first few pages and it seems like he was quite a reasonable, well spoken guy. That thread turned into this thread very quickly with the rabid unionists attacking him. I am imagining that he got banned for saying something offensive after being wound up constantly by the hoards of unionists on this site.

Am I close?
