Massive Explosion in Tianjin, China - Cause Unknown

lol, shipment of explosives into a petrol storage site....seems like a great idea lol.

I was assuming that the petrol storage angle was just the initial speculation and not accurate. Of course, there may have been a petrol storage facility near where the explosives went off I guess.

Apparently it was in the same vicinity as the Airbus factory - which is just to the east of the Tianjin international airport.

I love how everyone is becoming an expert on recognising different types of explosions now...

This is GD, we're all experts.

Have you never seen a thread when a plane goes down? This place is like the investigation room at the NTSB, and then MI6 roll in if there's a suspicion of a terrorist attack.

But on a serious note, hope there isn't too many injured/dead :(

do they have offices next to places where explosives are stored?

I have no idea... but I wouldn't be surprised if their were some of our people there. but anyway...

Looks to be somewhere around: (At least that is my best guess).

Filling Station
Nangang Rd
Binhai, Tianjin
China

airbus and airport seem a fair way from that though.

Seems a huge explosion just for petrol?

You have a small primary that disperses the petrol and mixes it with the surrounding air,

This then ignites and generates a massive explosion.

(See "Fuel/Air" bomb (AKA "Poor Man's Nuke!"))

Pound for pound, Petrol contains far more energy than TNT, 500 tons of petrol puts you well into Tak-Nuke territory!
