I think it was this episode where they were replicating unrealistic hollywood explosions.

I was assuming that the petrol storage angle was just the initial speculation and not accurate. Of course, there may have been a petrol storage facility near where the explosives went off I guess.

Apparently it was in the same vicinity as the Airbus factory - which is just to the east of the Tianjin international airport.

You have a small primary that disperses the petrol and mixes it with the surrounding air,

This then ignites and generates a massive explosion.
