Another Job Centre Plus, sanctioning rant!

Just to stress I am actually applying for jobs daily, the issues I face are when you have to declare mental health conditions which I have you don't tend to hear back from very many people. Coupled with the fact that I have a final court order in regards to seeing my kids which prevents me from working weekends, nights and would require me to have an early dart on two Fridays a month so I can collect my kids from school and a late start two mondays a month because I've got to take them to school and with requiring 50% of all their school holidays off because my ex refuses to negotiate holidays etc they've had to be set in stone and I'm not exactly free as a bird.

Yet I do make the effort to search daily as I don't want to be on benefits!

What jobs ask you to declare MH issues?

It's usually not mental health issues specifically but asking if you have any pre existing health conditions or disabilities. I have a strong background in security and it tends to come up quite a lot.

Not taking the mick. But you're looking for a job where you can only really work Tuesday Wednesday Thursdays? Monday late start. Friday early finish. With 30+ days holiday?

Local as well I take it? What qualifications do you have?

Can you let me know when you find one Vidar as I'd like to apply for it as well ;)

Sorry I'm not trying to make light of your situation but how on earth do you think you'll find a job with a restrictive list like that!

Sadly not that many, a few GCSE's and a GNVQ in ICT thats not worth much... most of the qualifications I had are industry related, first person on the scene, even had a close protection qualification many moons ago all of which have expired.

And regretably yes I do have to stay local because of the kids, though I'm prepared to travel well over an hour in any direction and am looking as far as Runcorn and Manchester and Ormskirk for work.

It's not my fault mate, this is what the court imposed and the only settlement I could get in regards to having regular access with my kids due to the ex continuously dicking things about.

I wouldn't disclose it, indeed it's likely to be unlawful to ask.

The general position is that it is unlawful for an
employer to ask any job applicant about their
health or disability unless and until the applicant has
been offered a job. (But note that there are a few
specific circumstances when questions about health
and disability can be asked. These are explained later
in this guide.)
Where an organisation is holding a bulk recruitment
exercise, this restriction on questions about health or
disability applies up to the point where an applicant
has been placed in a pool of successful applicants
who are to be offered jobs as vacancies arise.
It is also unlawful for an employer’s representative to
ask a job applicant questions about their health or
disability. This means that an employer cannot refer
an applicant to an occupational health practitioner
or ask an applicant to fill in a questionnaire provided
by an occupational health practitioner before a job
offer is made.

God this forum has a lot of anti-welfare members. So if you lost your job, who would help you out financially? Mother nature?

Some people need to get a grip. Unless you've ever been on the dole you honestly have NO IDEA how bad it is.

That said, it is nice to see so many people offering financial help and job searching advice. Best just to ignore the naysayers.

You help yourself by getting out there any taking anything you can find, how you do that with the list of stipulations that Vidar has the god know, I guess he'll be on JSA for quite some time to come.

With that being the case then I suggest he needs to get much better at covering his backside with the JobCentre so he doesn't get "sanctioned".

Thankfully ive not been on the JS since 2006 ish,But i feel your frustration OP..They don't communicate with each other,They tell you one thing then its another when you get there...keep on sending you miles away to do stupid courses/tests that don't even help you to find a job.

I like it when they moan your like 1-2 mins late too to an appointment,Yet when your on time they keep you waiting a good 10-20 mins because they're too busy chatting about what they're doing tonight or the week end with their work colleagues.

I just cant believe in this day and age people go hungry, are unable to get housing etc..pathetic.

yup and it has already been pointed out that that's what NI is for, DSS and the NHS.

Making assumptions about someone's situation though is uncalled for, at least until you understand their entire situation. Which you clearly don't.

Sounds like he's in a very difficult situation with the kids. Of course, I'm sure you would land a job in no time if you were in his position, right?

It's sad to see people on here acting like inconsiderate fools, it's even sadder to see the effects of DWP and IDS and it's God damn depressing to know we have at least another 4 years of this.

Hope you sort yourself out OP, like some others, happy to send a little money if that helps :).

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the unemployed and I did not speak out
Because I was not unemployed
Then they came for me— and I came to OCUK GD to moan about it!

I agree he's in a very difficult situation, the hours he can be availalbe for work is going to make it very hard for him to find a job.

As above, his circumstances leave him in a very hard position. Given the limited times he would be availalble I think anybody would struggle.
