Any advice - Seller messing me around

Complete and utter messers at least you got your deposit back.
Try a chargeback on your credit card for the inspection.

Then poop! yeh you know the rest.

Good luck pal

Why!? For starters it's not the inspections company's fault! And it wont work anyway since said company did nothing wrong.

I believe small claims would have a good chance of recovering the inspection cost if OP is ok with the hassle.

Hmm sounds to me like once you'd committed (especially with the money paid out on the inspection fee) he decided to string you a long thinking you'd almost definitely not back out... what a ****.

That said though the inspection is something you decided to have done rather than a pre-requisite for the sale so IMO kind of on your own head - until the final amount is paid he could have pulled out for whatever reason whenever.

Pretty much this. It was his car to do with as he pleased.

What if the inspection came up with something you didn't like? Then you'd have still paid out, and not had the car. Paying for a pre-inspection is always going to be a risk really. That's not suggesting people don't do it mind you.

Then what's the point of the deposit?

What inspection company did you use? did you pay it on credit card?

I cancelled a buyer and sent him back his deposit because he was generally being a plonker and took ages, the inspection company were really picky, they wouldn't inspect in a covered car park and wouldn't inspect on yellow lines or at the road side which is a a bit difficult in London not to do any of them.

Anyway he threatened me with court and provided the details where they had refunded his money and charged him £17.50 ish not the full amount.

Not much you can do by the looks of it, just sod this car off.

I got mucked around recently, all planned to go look at an ST220, guy let slip his reserve price on eBay so I was going to offer a little bit more than that (reserve £2500). Night before going to view it, he comes back with the old "My mate at work has offered £3250, if you can match that you can have it". Told him thats a good price and to take it. An hour later "You can have it for £2800". Nah sod off, nice try.

Then sold for £2500 on eBay.

The whole point in leaving a deposit is they take it off sale. TBH I wouldn't leave a deposit with a private seller, pay on the day only.

Anyway, you can do MUCH better for 9k. That is about 3-4k to much for that car with that milage, offer him 6k. :D

So you'd rock up to view a car with 9 grand in your pocket? Don't think so!
