US TV journalists shot dead on air

Now apply that logic to world security. Why don't we just nuke any country with have a military conflict with? We can ask the questions later after we've "neutralised the threat" then just apologise if we were wrong.

Yeah because cops carry nukes around and can wipe out millions of people. Totally see the comparison.

BBC reporting that the third victim of the gunman (identified as Vicki Gardner) is reportedly out of emergency surgery, recovering and is in stable condition.

America needs to sort out their damn gun laws, this kind of thing is getting far too common, it's just ridiculous. I hope they catch this man and really give him the injustice he wholly deserves.

***.

It is becoming way too common over there now. Something should be done.

Edit: I still don't know why the abbreviation for Quoted For Truth is starred out. Must have a bit of a history on these boards.

I'm sure in the wake of this tragic news that the US will stand up and do what it usually does - absolutely nothing.

I was on another forum and the conversation suddenly changed from something mundane to guns - and they were posting pictures of their guns, the various types of ammo piled up, and one guy revealed he kept his "piece" under his pillow at night - all said as if they were talking about a pint of milk they'd picked up at the cornershop.

They were a couple of forum moderators too.

The blokes shot himself but he's still alive and in critical condition. I hope they keep him alive so he can live a good few years with the knowledge of what he's done.

Eh? You seem to be struggling with a quite simple analogy.

Your argument is that if you feel you are in danger, that legitimises the ultimate defence. The take no chances approach.

So why can't countries use the same mentality, anyone threatens military action and the response should be to nuke that country out of existence? Surely by not nuking them you are 'taking the chance' they might fire a missile at your country first.

No, death rates used to be much higher, they're just more published now.

They are 2 very different scenarios with different consequences.

The biggest factor is time, when someone points a weapon at a police officer, they have a split second. If a country starts moving tanks around, you have the time to be a bit more diplomatic.

I have no idea how you can compare 2 countries with nuclear weapons to a cop and some guy armed on the street.

You are severely deluded.

There are no parallels between those 2 situations. At all. Period.

I'm also talking about a police officer confronting an armed suspect. I made no mention of countries and wtf waffle you are going on about...

I'd do the same if I was allowed, well maybe not under my pillow but certainly in a locked cabinet in my bedroom.

End of the day it's their country though, have to respect that.

Allowing a large population of idiots the right to carry guns is always going to end in many a tragedy.

I've watched both the gunman and camerman videos. How very sad :(

I'll kill you before taking any chance you can hurt me. There's the parallel you seem to be blind to.

Sigh... my head hurts.... You brought up countries nuking someone, how did you even get to that? what does that have to do with anything lol? so because I said 1 thing about the police, it's now a blanket statement that applies to diplomatic situations between countries? wtf...

Police are well trained in the UK (no idea what it's like for america). They do what they need to, if you're not the one putting your ass on the line you have no idea what it's like.

works in the UK, we don't get people gunned down like that, just shows the strictest guns laws in the world work!

We have had quite a few situations like that, Michael Ryan and that taxi driver whose name escapes me to name a couple.

If someone wants a gun in this country bad enough they will get one

I simply asked you to apply your "I think I'm in danger so will take no chances and kill the other person just in case" mentality to another form of conflict.

Let me put in this way, I don't support the notion that you'd rather see 1,000 people shot and killed providing it stops one cop from losing their life because they hesitated.

The fact the two cases you mentioned happened 28 and 5 years ago respectively prove the point. I bet you can name 5 instances in the US just from the last couple of years.
