Brought vs bought

Also, 'have' and 'of' gets my goat.

YES!!!!

How could I have forgotten this one!

EDIT: we need a forum for like minded folks to sit back in and smoke cigars whilst we peer out at the uneducated masses and laugh at their incompetence in the language they use every single day of their lives.

That's because you wrote it so your brain fills in the words' meanings automatically. Readers don't have that luxury and their brains must first interpret your words to unlock your post's meaning. It's far more difficult to find mistakes in your own work than in something written by someone else.

so true I've read something I've wrote over and over and not noticed anything, look at something someone else has written and typos are glaringly obvious.

It really is. It's especially so if you've omitted a word as your brain often fills in the blank space. It's the main reason why writers use proofreaders.

It dose wind me up when people can't spel a for letter word. :)

This forum isn't so bad but one I used to visit, dose came up in nearly every post.:rolleyes:

I left scool in 1959 and it was a factory fodder school so I do make mistakes. :D

There their, I'm just glad you bought this to my attention. That'll be £5 please.

Don't get me started on how stupid some people can be with their grammar. The sheer number of grammatical and spelling errors in CV's that hit my desk regularly is simply astounding - into the bin they go!
